@sandyfortner
Thanks, very helpful. I don't want to bring too much and send it home only to need it later.

Question about weather for AZT veterans...
I'm planning on starting my thru-hike of the AZT in mid-March(just like everyone else) and my current itinerary puts me at the state line at the very end of April/the very beginning of May. For those of you who have done the AZT/have experience hiking in Arizona in the springtime, what kind of weath...

Re: NOBO AZT Spring 2018 ~ Mid-March
@FireFly Wow, definitely lots of useful information here. I haven't even heard of Apache Junction/maybe I heard it called something else, but I too have a taste for pizza and beer after a long day of hiking so I'll have to check it out. As of now I only have two nights planned in town as well(reser...

Re: NOBO AZT Spring 2018 ~ Mid-March
@FireFly Wow, thanks for the info. It really helps getting feedback from people who've done the trail before. As far as between Pine and Flagstaff, I'll definitely be taking your advice. The only thing I'm worried about is that I'll reach the North Rim before May 15th when all the facilities open. ...

Re: NOBO AZT Spring 2018 ~ Mid-March
My original plan was to start March 21st because that's when my hiking partner called off work but now she tentatively might not be able to go due to getting the time denied. I make my own schedule at work so my start date is very flexible. I'm planning on doing the whole thing and don't really want...

Re: Thru-hike NOBO planning
Start mid- to late March, depending on your hiking style. If you start in early March and you typically do big miles you'll see lots of snow and freezing temperatures on the North Rim and the South Kaibab Plateau. Also none of the campgrounds on the North Rim are open until May 15th, meaning no wate...

Re: Bear bagging
Hello! This is my first thru-hike too so you're not alone. I have done a lot of long distance hiking, though, so I have a little advice as far as food storage. Your best bet would be to get an Ursack and use odor-proof plastic bags. That way you can camp anywhere and not have to worry about finding ...

Re: AZT thru hike in March 2018
Hey Ryland, I'm starting my thru-hike on March 21st and giving myself until May 3rd to finish which is approx 20 mi/day with 2 zeros and 3 nearos. During my planning some of the resupply logistics stumped me. I came across a really good guide written by a thru-hiker(web address below). Some things m...
