Re: April 2 night backpacking from Phoenix

@chumley ok help me out, I don't know how to get the correct temp, because when I search the forecast for Reavis falls the trailhead forecast says high of 84 on Friday with a low of 56 the night before. is that because the forecast is at the trailhead? and it's cooler once you get to the falls and ...

Re: April 2 night backpacking from Phoenix

@Nobody01 @SuperstitionGuy @azbackpackr @nonot @xsproutx @ALMAL @xsproutx @rcorfman hey y'all. so now I'm really confused. the group didn't want to do Reavis because it will be too hot. we were thinking of cabin loop but the temps will get to 32ish for the low with up to 25mph winds. I think that m...

April 2 night backpacking from Phoenix

Hi everyone, back again to get your suggestions :) I am taking a group of 8 on a two night backpacking trip in towards the end of April. I was going to try to get Aravaipa permits but I forgot and all the permits are gone for the dates we need. Our group has done the Grand Canyon. I would love to ex...

Re: Backpacking In Maricopa County Parks

Thanks everyone. The kids are used to carrying loads and climbing. I'm mainly worried about it being too cold. But maybe we just try hackberry and see what happens. :) Thank you all!

Backpacking In Maricopa County Parks

Hi, I am wanting to take my kids for a one-night first-time backpacking trip over Christmas break. We want to make it as easy as possible for them. :) And not too cold. We are very familiar with the Maricopa County Parks, particularly the White Tanks. I read on the website that you can get a permit ...

one night in the Superstitions

Hi, my husband and a friend want to backpack for just one night (out and back or loop-no shuttle) in the Superstitions mid December...starting super early the first day and leaving the trail in the afternoon the 2nd day. They would prefer it to be less desert-y if possible. Husband is an experienced...

Backpacking Trip in August - 2 night - not hot with water???

Hi I am looking to take a small group on a two night backpacking trip in August. We live in Phoenix and can travel about 2-3 hrs if necessary. We are all in good shape so it doesn't have to be an easy hike. But I'm looking for a hike that won't be hot. :) And hopefully with some water if possible. I...

Roosevelt Lake in January

Hi, My husband and I plan on camping at Roosevelt lake mid January. We will be in an RV since it's so cold. We have been section hiking the AZT and wondering what a good 10-12 mile round trip (could be an out and back) would be. We want to cover as much of the AZT as possible. we could also arrange ...

Douglas Spring to Grass Shack Camp

Hi guys, I would love an quick answer to this, but also maybe a tutorial or a link to a tutorial on how to find this info out for myself in the future. Thanks so much. Route Scout for Dummies

Hi! I feel little silly posting this but can someone please explain Route Scout to me. I downloaded my route that I want to take and previewed it. Looks great. But when I get out on the trail do I need to record my hike and will it show where I am at on the route? Do I need cell service for this? I ...

Re: Beginner 2 Night Trip Nearer to Phoenix

I think we are going to do the Reavis Canyon option. Couple of questions....If we camp there both nights and on the 2nd day make a trip up to Circlestone, can we just leave our tent up with our stuff in it, other than a day pack or is that going to get our stuff stolen :) Also do we need something t...

Hi! My husband and I are beginner backpackers though we are in pretty good shape as we trail run long distances. We want to do a TWO night overnight at the beginning of March. I saw the forum about 1 night overnights for beginners but didn't see any suggestions for 2 nighters. We'd prefer to drive u...
