Re: Backpacking Stoves.

I never had any problems whatsoever with my Svea but it is not titanium so likely no weight savings over your Solo Stove. Maybe compare specs on the web.

Toad Licking

Another warning from the NPS. Last year kids were caught on the game camera stealing these sonoran toads from the solar oasis pond in Spur Cross Ranch.

@SpiderLegs
They've been doing the helicopter tours for over 12 years at least. Four Peaks Mining Co. has owned it since 1998. Not sure if it has recently changed hands.

Re: Spur Cross Heat Exhaustion Death

I read they were hiking the Elephant Mountain Loop which is within Spur Cross boundaries. The trail is not maintained and is in poor condition past the Tortuga if you are hiking CCW. It's rough but still better than the Tonto trails like #252 or #247 @DarthStiller mentioned. There are two signs prio...

@DixieFlyer
I don't know if they were locals or not, but I'll find out from Kevin the ranger up there. They were only 4 miles into the hike when their water ran out. Not prepared by any means, that's for certain.

Re: Spur Cross Heat Exhaustion Death

Update: The group of 6 were hiking the Elephant Mountain Loop. They ran out of water 1/2 of the way into the hike @109 degrees. The man that passed away was in his 30's and two others in his group also had to be airlifted out from the main parking area.

We've had almost a full foot of sun up here today. I'm not sure we can make it out to hike.

Local history in a museum?

It's things like this that make my heart swell with pride for being a "creeker". Jay Leno would have had a good time with this headline on his show. Maybe something like..."I suppose the Rothko and Calder exhibits will have to go".

@big_load
He was a big boy but very lethargic due to the cool rain. I coerced him over and into a rock wall behind our home where a nasty pack rat resides. Let the games begin.

Re: Hiking cartoons -maybe we'll use this thread as a repository

@Alston_Neal Reminds me of the old story of the New Yorker who shot a deer in Montana and an old cowboy rolled up. The New Yorker was putting his deer tag on his kill and was afraid the cowboy wanted to steal his deer so he reacted in a threatening manner. The cowboy said whoa, hang on there, you c...
