Re: Horse Fire

We now have fine white ash falling at our home in Cave Creek from the Horse fire in the Bradshaws. This didn't happen with the East Desert, Ocotillo, or Sears Fires which were all much closer. This is so 2020. :(

Re: Utah Hiker Stalked By Mountain Lion

@chumley @nonot That's too funny. Someone didn't waste any time putting that out. Re: the original...I didn't know he had gone near any offspring. Explains why he kept saying "Dude, go back to your babies". May have happened in Utah, but it's a safe bet he was from California. No offense to our Cal...

Utah Hiker Stalked By Mountain Lion

A Utah hiker/trail runner was stalked for over 6 minutes on a trail this week. The lion, identified as "Dude", made several charges while the hiker identified as Kyle Burgess utilized the new Tourettes tactic of defense along with a thrown rock to stop the attack... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A...

Re: 430+ Doing R2R Last Saturday

@chumley Prior to our exercise hike at Spur Cross on Sunday a fellow pulled up next to us in a 800HP Dodge Hellcat and we exchanged 'hellos'. We asked where he as hiking and he said the Skull Mesa Ruins. He appeared to be a strong hiker but his boots looked brand new and he had very little water fo...

@joebartels
It's all because of HAZ. This website is responsible for the gain in popularity of hiking and the resulting crowds. Prior to HAZ, it was just Sir Edmond Hillary, Reinhold Messner, Tenzing Norgay, and a handful of others on Everest...now it's a conga line 24/7. Thanks a lot Joe. :lol:

@wildwesthikes wrote "I think you spelled century wrong"

:) Agreed, but the 13th and 14th century's were so bad they drove most people living here completely out of the area. Don't need a repeat of that. :-)

We looked for but didn't see the "Christmas Tree" in the median of I-17 south of Cordes Junction. Maybe it burned?

Re: Sears Fire

@Jim_H I'm viewing the plume of the Sears Fire from my back patio...moving N/E now. Seems to lay down overnight and drift west into Cave Creek and settle in the low areas until the prevailing winds switch back during the warming of the day. It was like a fresh campfire this morning at our house. Aa...

My older sister from Tucson joined recently. HAZ name PilatesLady. Not very active with her posting yet, but that will change when she figures things out. Here we are sitting on the south rim of the Grand Canyon (Desert View Watchtower) in 1963.

@chumley I renamed my post back when they gave it an official name. This ABC video clearly shows several out buildings and a motor home at the Sears Kay Ranch fully involved. One major structure can also be seen going up with tall flames exiting the roof. Reference the start and @ 45:00 to 46:00 ap...
