Re: Trademarking the term, "backcountry"

Backcountrygear.com - i would have thought those guys were in the crosshairs, as it seems very easy to confuse the two retailers. i think BCG might put up a better fight.

that's the one. may have deer hunters around. but they're good folk, usually. not there to blast Rap till midnight and not there to introduce screaming kids to the misery of camping.
there's only 5 sites. pack it in, pack it out. have a blast! it's a pretty spot.

temps at indian garden were low in march... prolly around 25. was GLAD to get down to phantom, much warmer.

Re: GCNP Backpack Trip Questionzzzz

if you get the permit to stay at one of the TWO group sites at Phantom, you can hang there. the poles that are used for pack hanging (critters) are perfectly spaced for straps. four of us hammock veterans went down to educate the rangers and staff on hammock use, there is no hanging from trees at ph...

no greater thrill than landing a 12" smallie on a fly rod. use a 3wt with a hopper variety. or floating, jointed minnow. or just about anything that moves. browns and rainbows in there, too. take rain gear.

Re: Hammock use

not in any way objective, but all y'all'll prolly have a hard time finding suitable trees below 4,500' elevation. unless in riparian areas, and a few hidden pockets here and there, the deserts just don't have the possibility to hang along the entire 800 mile stretch. choose some hikes that are (for ...

have you seen the rafts that are MADE for such adventure? super durable, light, and can handle rivers... but they come with a price. the 2 brands of REAL rafts, not vinyl pool toys, that come to mind are Kokopelli (teva joe's personal favorite i'd guess) and Alpacka. there are a few cheaper options ...

upper pinal is nice. I was there on a hot, popular weekend and saw 2 other groups, who left at 2pm. had the place to myself. I was surprised at that, actually. I think there are 4 spots up there, and about 9 at the other site. yes, it's free.

Romero creek waterfall, near Bear Camp about 5.5 miles from the Romero Canyon trailhead.
Lemmon Pools. gotta find those on your own.
