Re: 2022 Fire Season

drop ignitions What are 'ignitions' in this context? Tried googling but, as you can imagination, the word 'ignition' associated with fire isn't the most helpful edit: nm. Guess my google skills were fine, just didn't trust it was that simple at first I guess. Suppose it's to clear out remaining fue...

Re: 2022 Fire Season

I could go off trail a dozen yards and touch flames if I wanted to. I thought I was generally pretty laissez faire about these sorts of things but that one takes the cake a bit... I guess if you're rafting, there really might not be any other option other than just to power on through sometimes, th...

Re: 2022 Fire Season

It truly depends on the fire location, winds, weather, terrain, etc. There would be situations where 5 miles wouldn't bug me at all and situations where 20 would give me pause. I've been within a few miles of one before but it was on the otherside of a ridge with the wind blowing away and I barely e...

t sure looks like increased human error to me. Obviously not familiar with the exact product/factory/facility you're talking about but this is mostly what we're seeing. Most places that produce a lot of product QA by random lot; they'll take a certain amount off a lot, test, and then if the test fa...

problems with quality control So I can't speak for auto parts specifically, but I work in supply chain management and this has become pretty common in the last two years. In an effort to make up production loss during factory shutdowns (Vietnam and Taiwan were hit harder than most in this regard, w...

Re: Packraft Recommendations

I have the Supai Matkat and love it. I travel a lot for work and will often bring my backpack/gear and the supai to get in trips close to where work takes me; I primarily use it on mostly calm rivers/lakes to access backcountry trails/campsites. I've used it on a couple lakes here and on the colorad...

The one part you can almost guarantee at the end of any docu following a free climber is on screen text at the end saying something along the lines of, "2 months after shooting, xx died climbing xx."

@outdoor_lover
I can't speak to the extreme type of stuff like this video, but my experience with my normal-people stuff is either yes or, more frequently, there will be another person/team that climbed traditionally up top with ropes that they can then use to come on down.

Agree with Nonot but if the weekend is a must, try going around lunch time; 12-1 or so. I've found that in many busy places like that, it's a prime time as people who got the morning start are heading out at that time. Obviously not going to guarantee anything but greatly increases the odds at least

Re: Tent Zipper Replacement?

Rainypass Repair is great for this sort of thing but to the point previously made, not sure the cost would be worth it. Never hurts to check, of course. They're who REI recommends and I've used them before (albeit for washing my quilts, not repair)

Re: Arizona man convicted of illegal backcountry guide operations

@azbackpackr TBH, sounds like he kind of did for a while and then they just politely told him to stop. Even after that, there's no mention of a fine. Depending on court fees/lawyer fees, might have still come out ahead? "Just Roughin' It," that was forging info That the same company locate...

Ellison Creek @ Highline water avail?

Hiking the highline shortly and the only spot I have a question about on water is the stretch between the hatchery and Bonita. It'd be nice to not have to carry the 11-12 miles worth of water and Ellison is about halfway. Water reports are a little sporadic on that one and my guess is that it's flow...

Second nonot; I think you'll hit the creek a little over a mile if you're starting from the Mt Peeley TH and, like he said, if you don't see if, it'll pop back above ground before too long. Right now, though, it's mostly above ground

Re: Deer Creek Trail #45, AZ : Reliable water from the top down.

Deer Creek was running nicely a couple of weeks ago and that should still be the case. Water shouldn't be an issue.
