Re: our friend John Scott ( johnr1 ) hit by boulder in Upper
Sure seems like John was everywhere! I remember working with him to prepare for the technique we use at the Over the Rim -- Grand Canyon Clean-up in 2011. http://hikearizona.com/photo=215480 He was eager to learn and ready to help. He will be missed. My heart goes out to his family and many friends....

Re: Mary Simpson--Maryphyl
So so sad. MaryPhyl will be missed by many. She was such an expert with so much information. I am thankful to have known her and had her "on watch" for me during an adventure in her neck of the woods. She and her husband/boyfriend (as she called him) were so very welcoming, friendly and pa...

Yellow Peak Pictures
The family members of the recently recovered Utah hikers are asking about getting pictures of Yellow Peak. I did recently post some in my Aylor's Arch set but they might also like to have some from the NE side. Does anyone already have some they would be willing to link me to or perhaps someone woul...

Re: 12-31-10, Snow in the Supes?
I had to pass on doing a canyon today because I don't own a drysuit yet but I did hear that it was a total whiteout past the Tortilla Trailhead. Also appears to be snow up towards Queen Valley, maybe the Oak Flat area or perhaps a little further up. I am NOT seeing anything up on this side of the Su...

Disappointing---I really had hoped to check the site and find that you two had found at least a trace. That ice can be difficult to spot, I hope your injuries heal up quickly. I am reminding myself that we all can be thankful that more terrain was covered and that is a good thing. I have 3 ideas----...

Re: Mt. Peeley Trailhead 12/18-19
s1.jpg Lots of good ideas still coming from everyone for search options. 1) Search the ‘smell area 2) Joe’s ’09 bail out area really has not been thoroughly searched in the ravine. 3) Peak#2 area is the one where there is high risk of losing footage-- resulting in a fall. Got this image today from ...

Here is some info I found about doing a grid search--pretty much looks like we need a lot of people.

Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)
Shawn---more eyes out there couldn't hurt. Jacob and I wandered around in that area for awhile before we knew about the way point. It seemed pretty well traveled. Brian was headed out that way today. He was going to specifically give that area a good look and to descend ravine #4 (rumor has it-- he'...

Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)
Jacob and I were up and down anything that looked trampled on in the least bit through those switchbacks.....I'm sure we trampled the brush even more. The more we looked the more we realized It just didn't make sense to cut off the trail and battle the thick brush. If Joe made it to that point and w...

Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)
Alright Brian--I'm going to follow your thinking with my 2 cents. If Joe only made it to Peak 6910 and opted to bail I would guess that route to be Ravine 4 or maybe 5. If he made it much further back across the ridgeline (to ravine 7) the route down the north side was so easy he would most likely h...

Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)
That was my Subaru at the Mt.Peeley trailhead today; I was clearing brush on the Arizona Trail again. Still about one inch of snow in some shady spots but melting/sublimating fast. It should be no problem for even a two-wheel drive car. Hey Art, I remember you mentioning that you actually met GPSjo...
