Re: Royal Arch Route Trip Coming Up...

@hikeaz That’s a cool video, but one would still have to up climb that easier rappel if they wanted to return the same route. Very helpful info. I had always had it in my head the easier rappel was inside Royal Arch Canyon thus making it possible to do a short loop along the beach and return back u...

Re: Royal Arch Route Trip Coming Up...

Rappel questions. Is that 20ft rappel inside the Royal Arch drainage? Is it possible to follow the Royal Arch drainage to Elves chasm then follow the Colorado River back to the Tonto then return the same way back up the Royal Arch route without needing to rock climb.

Re: The Barracks

@chumley How cold was it when you guys did this hike? We’re hoping to do this over Memorial Weekend, but from looking at the weather for Kanab and Springdale it’s saying the highs will be in the 60’s. Totally blown away by that as I was thinking end of May would be much warmer. My weather app says ...

Re: The Barracks

And one more question. Are there enough trees along this hike and in the canyon to do some hammock camping?
Much thanks!

Re: The Barracks

@chumley Awesome info! What kind of shoes did you sport? Since we’re carrying backpacking gear and got that hike out wondering if I should use a canyoneering type boot or just use a cheap pair of non-waterproof hiking boots. Thanks!

Hello, Looking for info on ideal cfs for doing this hike as well as just how sketchy is the hike up from the river. I’ve been using this to gage the flow https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?agency_code=USGS&site_no=09404900 and was told it should be at 40cfs or lower. In regards to the climb out how ...

Re: Reavis Falls...

Anyone have a guestimate as to how far Circlestone might be from the base of the falls? Trying to figure out if it is a realistic dayhike to camp at the falls and dayhike to circlestone. Or we were contemplating one night at the falls, break camp and find a spot along #109 after the turn off to the ...

Re: Boucher Rapids via Boucher, AZ :: Trail/Camp Info

Thank you! You guys are most helpful:-) I’ll ditch the hammock. Backcountry office naturally is discouraging me from parking an RV out there, but it’s that or we park 2 vehicles at the TH so I’d call it a wash. I was just wondering if there are actual designated oversize parking spaces at Hermits Re...

Wondering if there are oversize parking spaces at Hermits Rest. I have a 25ft RV I’d like to park there while we go backcountry for 3 nights.

Re: Boucher Rapids via Boucher, AZ :Camp/Trail Questions

Yep. Personal preference I guess. I always worry about my knees so thinking up might be nice with an overnight on the way up. What about parking a 25ft RV at Hermits Rest? Do they have oversize parking spots? Backcountry office discouraged the idea, but didn't say it’s not allowed. Sorry and a third...

Boucher Rapids via Boucher, AZ :: Trail/Camp Info

So looking to do this as a loop with Hermit and am wondering what people’s thoughts are: go down Hermit and up Boucher or vice versa. I’ve read conflicting reports on which is the better way to attack Boucher. Up or down? Thoughts? Always appreciated:-) And by chance will the park service let backpa...

Re: Bassett Peak, AZ :: Thatcher/Safford bypass

So one more question: Is the bypass still a quicker option vs coming in from Wilcox if say one lived in central Phoenix and had to make a decision once they got to the US60, I-10 split? Google maps keeps telling me to take the Wilcox route, but that doesn’t take into account the bypass option. Askin...

Bassett Peak, AZ :: Thatcher/Safford bypass

Just wondering if the bypass is really worth it as a timesaver option. Especially if I won’t be driving 60mph over the roads. I’ve been on those roads and they had washboards which shook my jeep pretty good if I went to fast. Google maps doesn’t provide the bypass option and it’s normally pretty goo...

Re: Mt Ord Via Slate Creek Trailhead

Hmm. So is the tricky part right at the beginning coming up from slate creek? If so at least I'll know pretty quick what I'm getting myself into. I'm pretty cautious and will have my kids in the jeep so definitely won't do anything that makes me uncomfortable. Maybe even hike it first to check it ou...

Re: Mt Ord Via Slate Creek Trailhead

Bump. What about in a jeep wrangler? Some of the pics make the road look pretty narrow and no desire to tumble off the side of the road. I gotta lift on my jeep and run 33's so not worried about ground clearance as much as width. Much thanks!
