Re: FR 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH

@00blackout I drove the 650 last December running the Montana loop in my lifted TJ with lockers and found it challenging towards the top of the run. I ran it going up 650 and down 172. I had no clue there was maintenance done on that as it seemed pretty worked. Passed a few stocked vehicles beat to...

Re: Question about Sasco to Silverbell Ghost Towns, AZ

@rwstorm Perfect! Thank you for that info. It’s been decades since I’ve been out there. I always liked that bar at the exit at red rocks. They had pigs feet in a jar at the bar. Seems like it’s closed now. I didn’t remember the road being all that bad. Water in the river is now the wild card. Is th...

Re: Question about Sasco to Silverbell Ghost Towns, AZ

Good intel. Much appreciated. Are there decent campsites for a rig like mine before the Santa Cruz? It sounds like camping by the river is a bad idea with the smell. What about going the other way from Silverbell? If I go from Silverbell I would pull my jeep so my next question would be are there de...

Question about Sasco to Silverbell Ghost Towns, AZ

Hello all, doing my usual beta to get intel from peeps about if I would be able to get my 25ft class C out to the Sasco ruins from the red rock exit. My concern is the river bed crossing. I’d never do it when it’s running but when it’s dry is it doable to get a rig like mine across that and out to t...

@chumley
I haven’t paid enough attention the last few years, but since initiating the permit system is it the norm to close it off during the week?

Re: Fossil Creek - Reservations

Is this new where the creek is now closed during the week for peak season in 2025? Open Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays in April through September Spring-summer season. Parking permit required. No camping allowed. Closed Mon-Thurs https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/coconino/recarea/?recid=75356#:~:tex...

Ben Avery Trail - Indian Spring Petroglyphs, AZ :: Question by louie

I’d like to pull my jeep and camp somewhere along the road to the TH. Are there decent sites to boondock out there in a 25ft class C RV along Courthouse/Centennial Rd? Probably will be two RV’s about the same size. Much thanks!

Re: Nankoweap Drive, Starting Point, Etc.

@ShatteredArm Got it! Great info! I think I’ll go for it and take the RV to the upper TH and triplog it when we get out. There is another vehicle meeting us there so if I get in a bind I’ll just park it and jump in their truck. I got plenty of experience taking the RV on roads I should never have b...

Re: Nankoweap Drive, Starting Point, Etc.

It’s a 25ft class C recreational vehicle. I could pull the Jeep behind it and just drive as far as I could on the road. But I’d like to camp at the TH and not take the Jeep and was hoping the upper TH road since it is shorter was maintained enough to drive the motorhome to the trail head or grab a c...

Re: Nankoweap Drive, Starting Point, Etc.

@ShatteredArm Thank you for the info. I had it in my brain the lower road was sandy and needed high clearance, but 26 miles on dirt is too much for the old girl. I’ll take the Jeep. No TH glamping this trip. On that lower route to the Nankoweep TH do you know if there are any aspens along the way? ...

Re: Nankoweap Drive, Starting Point, Etc.

This seems like a fun thread to bump. But I didn't want to start a new one since the topic addresses my questions. I'm doing this in a few weeks and wondering which trailhead people prefer. I like the idea of the higher elevation start simply because I love seeing aspens in the fall plus it's a bit ...

Re: FR 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH

I just did this road on 3/12. My buddy in a 2 wheel drive newer f150 kept spinning the tires in the mud on that last one mile stretch and parked at the last turn before you get to the TH. They also struggled lower on the road on the way out on a loose gravelly rock climb and kept spinning the tires....

Tanner and New Hance Trail, AZ :: Trail conditions in snow.

Getting ready to hike this next week Thursday - Sunday. Down Tanner - Escalante - Up New Hance and wondering if anyone has hiked Tanner or New Hance with snow at the top. Trying to get a grip on what the sketch factor will be with snow and ice on the trail at the top like how exposed it is up there ...

Re: North Bass Trail, AZ :: White Creek Canyon, Hotauta Canyon, Natural Bridge, Water Cache

I did this hike last May and was thrilled with the amount of water all along the trail. Also, there is a rabbit hole at Shinumo falls where one can drop over the boulder next to the fall and then climb up the rabbit hole to get back above the fall again. We watched rafters do this over and over. Ste...

@ShatteredArm Sweet! A rare Grand Canyon hike that doesn’t require a water cache. Looking forward to not having to pack that extra weight. Thank you!

To get to the TH does one need high clearance 4x4? Heading out there next week. Any advice is always greatly appreciated :-)

North Bass Trail, AZ :: White Creek Canyon, Hotauta Canyon, Natural Bridge, Water Cache

Doing this next week and have a few questions: Is it possible to backpack white creek (white canyon on the topo map) from the natural bridge south to where the main trail connects with white creek again? If not is this a worth while area to drop the backpacks and do some day hiking as far as we can ...

Re: Deer Creek Trail #45, AZ : Reliable water from the top down.

@xsproutx How many miles you think from the top (Mt. Peeley TH) until you hit water going down? Is the spring at Gowan Camp reliable this time of year? Thank you for the info.
