Reavis
Way short notice and a pretty informal event/invite. However, I will be doing an over-night to Reavis this Saturday. I noticed some other HAZers will be in area, but this is not related to their event. Not that mine could really be called an event :roll:
However, I will be there so if someone has nothing to do this weekend and happens to be in area it would be cool to bump into you at the ranch!
I don't mind coordinating transportation with anyone, however, as Chumley and John will attest, I am not an easy guy to plan around and I would classify my route there as slightly unorthodox. It will involve a touch of Cuff Nasty, West Pinto, Campaign, Fire Line and finally the ranch. I will be looking at an early evening arrival time with the pups, but we will be sleeping at the ranch for sure! Still debating super early start Sat. or car camp at Miles Friday night. That being said, if you have not experienced any of these eastern Supes trails they can be a real "treat" and if you don't mind poking around at rock piles along the way, slightly overgrown trails, a very early start, and scratches feel free to PM me.
If none of the above appeals to you, maybe just see you at the ranch....

@The Eagle
Thanks Bruce! I am usually not as detail oriented on weather, good to know, I was thinking a no rain fly weekend..I might revisit that idea...but temps look solid

@slowandsteady
Yes both Blanco and Cup have committed, albeit they did not necessarily have a choice...
You should make it an over-night trip

Re: Reavis
There's some small pools of water but the creek wasn't flowing at all a week and half ago. I was surprised-- I'd never seen it like that.

Re: Reavis
@te-wa
See you there I got a spot in tree line near middle of ranch and orchard, tough boots prob. right, water around there gets a little nasty and mud hole this time of year, however, there is certain to be good water at far south end towards intersection with fire line...try to give me a heads up where you staying, but previous hippy fest location will prob be perfect..hope to see you out there!

Re: Reavis
go to the gap trail crossing, a pool 4 feet or more deep there in summer, usually.

An overnighter won't work for us this weekend. Our fur kids need a sitter. ;) We will just be day hiking to the apples. Hopefully our paths will at least cross somewhere!

Re: Reavis
Has anyone heard from the folks up at the orchard?
Is the Tortilla Flat crossing and Queen Creek wash impassable?
With this much rain Forest Road 172 itself may be impossible to traverse.
Lets hope they can wait it out if they cannot get out.

Re: Reavis
Bifrost, Slowandsteady, and myself hiked in with Lee from the Miles trailhead this morning. Tewa had not made it yet as of early afternoon. It started raining pretty soon after we left Lee at the orchard. The storm got pretty nasty on the hike out. It was probably the worst weather I've ever hiked through-- heavy rains, thunder, and lightning. The storm ended before dark. I'm not sure how Tewa will do from the north side but Lee will have no issues driving out from Miles TH.

Re: Reavis
It can get pretty nasty up there. I'm sure this weekends storms were no exception to that. I got caught up there 2 years ago in some bad weather. Winds were 40 to 50 mph...by my best guess. We got tons of rain, sleet and a bit of snow as well. The wind was by far the worst part with the temps in the 20's!
Glad to hear you all made it out just well enough!
