Dayhiking from upper tapeats to deer creek - loop

Post by louie »

Wondering if anyone has done this as a loop dayhike starting at upper tapeats camp, then down to the colorado, then over to deer creek and back through surprise valley to upper tapeats camp. Wondering what the mileage is and what kind of time it might take as a dayhike. Also, which way to go. East to west or west to east? Much thanks for any feedback. :A1:

@louie
12 miles, 3550' AEG.
I did this using Route Manager

In case you didn't see, I replied to your question on this subject yesterday.

I've only hiked it the other way and not as a day hike, but the stats are listed for you.

Info is in the comments below this photoset.

@Chumley. My bad. Thanks for the response. For some reason I didn't get email updates from my response to your triplog. This is our plan B trip this year since once again the LCR is running brown. Thanks for the info:-)

Make sure you have your permit in place at Upper Tapeats. It's popular this time of year, and the ranger was out checking when we were there last week.

We called yesterday and there are permits available for upper Tapeats, but I'm shocked you saw a ranger there. It isn't a main corridor trail and am surprised the NPS has the manpower to be out at the more obscure backcountry sites checking tags. Appreciate the feedback :-)

Somebody has to check the toilet to see how deep the feces has piled up and shovel it around before calling in the helicopter to swap it out with a new one. :yuck:
