Oak Creek: Cave Springs or Pine Flat?

Post by Thom »

Hi all. Got a question for you.

I'm going camping up at Oak Creek Canyon next week with my ex-gf. She's a total newbie at the outdoors so I won't be stressing her with any big hikes, but I'd like plenty of opportunity for her to enjoy the trip.

I'd like:
* Some light day-hiking from camp.
* A little swimming or wading, if the water isn't hypothermic.
*** Most of all, a cozy spot to camp, some nice foliage, as close to the water as possible.

With all that in mind, where would you recommend we stay? Cave Springs or Pine Flat?

(Unfortunately, I didn't have enough notice to reserve a waterfront spot at Cave Springs, but maybe something on Loop F would be close... Or it looks like much of Pine Flat is close to the water.

Nevermind.

I've been reading up on the West Fork opinions on HAZ and I noticed on the map that the Cave Springs campground is a lot closer... like 1/2 a mile from the trailhead? So we'll camp at Cave Springs and walk part of the trail. :D

I'll bring my camera too.
