Whazzit???
Saw this from afar while wandering today and can't figure out it's purpose. Appears to be loose hanging vertical wooden slats (attached only from the top) from a cable stretched above a ravine.They can't stop water or rocks and large wildlife can just walk around it.

Re: Whazzit???
flexible fences, usually for cattle. In areas where there can be flowing rivers/debris, the fence allows the crap to flow through.

@nonot
Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought at first except that the cattle can just walk around either side. Seems to defeat the purpose.

Re: Whazzit???
@LosDosSloFolks Yeh I figured, there’s at least a few of those fences in the washes along that road. Can’t say I’ve ever seen that type anywhere else.

@joebartels
Looks like a wash that has a heavy flow of water only sporadically. I'm guessing the cows are not smart enough to walk around it. Or possibly there is something I can't see on the ends that prevents that from occurring.

Re: Whazzit???
@LosDosSloFolks I’m guessing the terrain has changed since the fence was installed. Whenever I see it I always stop to wonder how it works.

Re: Whazzit???
Maybe it's like those cattle grids that are really just lines of paint on the pavement. Or maybe there used to be regular fence extending from either end of the hula skirt.LosDosSloFolks wrote:hat's what I thought at first except that the cattle can just walk around either side. Re: Whazzit???
It's possible the fence to the sides has either fallen into disrepair or been torn down? Some of them are quite old and no longer serve a purpose since ranching rights change over time.LosDosSloFolks wrote: ↑Mar 20 2019 7:38 pm @nonot

Unrelated, it's almost lunch time, and I think the menu calls for a roast beef sandwich.
