Bobcat sighting

I couldn't get pics while I was driving, but I got a great look at a bobcat driving back out from Haunted Canyon on FR287. It was up near the mine tailings, bouncing along on the shoulder just ahead of me going uphill.

I've seen a few bobcats in the wild before, but never out in the open like that.

you can't see the bobcat too good in this pic, but here he is lapping up some grease in a drip pan that I use when grilling

edit: I am not 100% sure that it was a bobcat, so I deleted the pic

Hmm, I haven't been able to spot the bobcat. Actually, I haven't been able to spot the picture or a link to it.

I was impressed to read that "A bobcat consumes prodigious numbers of prey. It is estimated, for instance, that a female (mama) bobcat and three kittens to which she gave birth (avg.) at the beginning of her second year of life will consume at least 3800 rats, 700 cottontail rabbits, and 3200 mice by the end of her second year."

There is a family of bobcats at Sweetwater Wetlands in Tucson that is very used to being photographed, and I see pics posted almost every day on "backyard wildlife of the southwest" showing what incredible hunters (and eaters) they are! This particular family eats lots and lots of Coots.

An old story (from April 2018) as I read up on the Grand Enchantment Trail.

The other guy, Square Pants, had had a crazy day, as he had been attacked by a bobcat. He showed us the big gash on his leg from the encounter. They were planning to get into Phoenix today to see a doctor. Pretty scary.

This was on the Section that I am considering backpacking next week.

Hmm.. March, April. Seem close, time-wise.
