It's the Solstice!
On the 21st at 10:30 PM Mountain Time, or 22:30, or 5:30 AM UTC (December 22nd, officially), it will be the solstice. Get out there and enjoy it. ;)
Just in time, too, as I'm sick and tired of winter. What? You say there are 3 more months of it? Aaawwww!

Re: It's the Solstice!
By the 15th of the month the sun angle will be at 45 degrees in Tucson, at solar noon, and increasing rapidly!

Re: It's the Solstice!
I don't know, but there is some pagan sun related thing around this time. Celtic or something. Possible tied to the phenomenon we are about to enter, where we gain a degree of sun at solar noon ever 3 days, for the next few months, before we slow down for the next solstice.

It was yesterday! We've already gained a second, a full second over yesterday's day length. Can you feel it? 4 seconds tomorrow!

I noticed it seemed like a longer day on my hike today.

No, I can't feel it. Sunsets have been getting later since December 10th, but more importantly, Sunrises won't start getting earlier until January 16th. So, I won't "feel it" (aka fired up) until March.

I can't wait until late February and early March. Yeah, we need winter precip, but I am ready for Spring.

I just want to see the sun. I won't be back in AZ until the end of March.

@big_load
I'll say to you what I continue to say to family that resides in that place. "Why do you choose to live in New Jersey?".

Re: It's the Solstice!
The solstice has long passed, but tomorrow is the first day in Phoenix where the sunrise occurs earlier than the previous day. (Sunset times have been later since early December, already about 18 minutes later than the earliest sunset.)
And melting hot sun is closer ahead than behind! Temperatures are already on the rise, with the average lowest temps occurring in Phoenix during the last week of December.

Re: It's the Solstice!
The homepage told me to post here! It was the solstice, yesterday, at 1:50 PM AZT, or 4:50 PM in the orient of the continent.
