@zazizoma
I'm heading out that way this weekend and can report back then.
Hiking is just walking where it’s okay to pee. :y:

I just moved back to Eagar, and have been told that the Alpine District no longer has a trail crew. Sure would like to know if ANY trails in that area will remain hikeable. Please do comment!!

I'm a full-time caregiver now, so I can only do day hiking closer to town, but maybe I'll get a break.

Grant Creek was dry from the junction with Steeple (#73) to about 3/4 of a mile in, at which point Upper Grant Creek (#65) became inpassable, a solid wall of debris. Even that first 3/4 mile was a lot of trunk climbing, thorns and very slow going. We returned to Steeple and continued S to Willow Spring to camp. Trail was easy to follow with only a couple of trees to climb. Cistern was full. We didn’t attempt any of the other canyon trails after surviving that small portion of #65.
Not having a trail crew would explain this, @azbackpackr, thanks for that info! I now know what to ask ranger stations. We’d stopped into the Alpine station on our way in to check on water and fire conditions, and they didn’t have any information on water, but they also didn’t tell us the trails weren’t maintained!
@00blackout, how was your experience?
I believe that Largo (#51) used to be used to access Bear Mt fire station, so I wonder if that might be in better shape.

Please do call the Alpine Ranger district and plead with them to start maintaining their trails again. I heard they have only one guy. When I lived here 20 years ago, they had a crew with mules! Even then they had trouble keeping the trails open due to a lot of deadfall. Anyway, if enough people call to ask them to start doing something, maybe there will be a change in budgeting. Who knows?

@zazizoma
I hiked up Upper Grant Creek late last summer, and while it was overgrown and had a few spots with a lot of debris, I wouldn't say it was anywhere near impassible.

I did a lollipop loop yesterday. Plenty of water in Grant Creek from the cabin site to the Paradise junction. I filtered a couple of liters and it tasted great.

@zazizoma
We started from the P Bar Lake TH and headed down to Grant Creek that way from the cabin connector.
