Where is this place? Does anyone know?

Post by Roba' Kai »

When I was a teenager, while still living in the Sierras in California, I took many trips to Arizona. I remember one time staying in Winslow, but we drove (maybe a half hour or so) to a river. There was very high rock walls along the banks and a bridge across the water. you could jump off the wall and the bridge. The water was very deep. It may have been a quarry of some sort.

Does this sound familiar and does anyone know where this is or what it is called?

In response to Roba' Kai's reply: The first thing that came to my mind with your description is the Navajo Bridge up by Marble canyon. Its a bit further than a half hour though. Its a great site to see if not. 8)

I don't think that is it. It is a single bridge and that's a double (right? I did a search and from the photo it appears that way) and it does not look like you can jump from the rocks.

Isn't Navajo over the Grand Canyon?

I could be wrong about the distance from Winslow. It may have been an hour. I do remember that you could not see the river or anything that even resembled a bridge until you were right on top of it.

"It had a bridge" " It was near Winslow". It seems likely that you are talking about Canyon Diablo, west of Winslow.

South of Winslow about 6 miles is Clear Creek and sounds like your discription except for the time, steel bridge, rock walls and deep water.
Further along abour 20 miles Southeast of Winslow is Chevelon Creek,
steel bridge, high rock walls, don't know how deep the water is under the
bridge.

If you jumped off Navajo Bridge at Marble Canyon, you would not be here with us today. : )

Was the road paved or dirt ? I think it may be Chevron Creek.
