I'm not really expecting anyone to join in on this, but I thought I should mention it for forms sake. Leave Campo, CA on or about Tax Day on what seems to me to be the adventure of a lifetime. Try to show up in reasonable shape and let the trail build you into a thru-hikin' machine. Meet folks, see stuff, walk far and arrive in Canada in the middle of September or so.
Anybody got a spare five months and wanna go walking?
Hike Arizona it is full of sharp, pointy, ankle-twisting, HAZmaster crushing ROCKS!!
Hike Arizona it is full of sharp, pointy, shin-stabbing, skin-shredding plants!
Hike Arizona it is full of striking, biting, stabbing, venomous wildlife!
ya know, there are easier ways to avoid the IRS, you dont have to go camping for 5 months!
Have a fun, great, life changing experience, Mike- I know this means a lot to you.
I'm so excited for you! How fun! I will be on the PCT the first week in April. We are only hiking about 50 miles though. We are starting in Big Bear and ending at the Barstow Freeway on the edge of the Angeles National Forest. I wish you luck on the hike, and hopefully someday I can put my life on hold long enough to do a BIG section for several months.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll try to keep a running report going. BTW, where on this site would be the best place for that? Also BTW, the foot and the knee seem to be improving; I'm running out of excuses, I'm just gonna have to go! The date is fixed now...April 14th.

Wow, I don't know where to begin. You might try the Pacific Crest Trail Association site. As well there is a site on Yahoo for people who are going this year...Google "PCT2008". PM me if you you want to talk further.
Tommy...
Are you doing the whole thing? Starting the 27th, are you going to the Kick-Off? Hope to see you on the trail. We'll tell everyone how easy this is compared the the AZ desert!!
Maybe a new sub-forum is in order where you can post updates and all of us can post our sympathies.... err.... encouragements Kidding... Any others like that idea?
No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy, even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength
I leave for my trip early next week. I can't wait. 5 days of peace and quiet on the PCT! When I get back I will let you know how it went. How is the planning on your trip coming? Sounds like a logistical nightmare from what I have read about those super long thru hikes! On PCTA there are some great blogs you can link to, most people are hitting the trail next week for their thru hike attempts, it's been fun to watch the blogs as they prepare.

I'm at Kennedy Meadows, Trail Mile 702.....WooHoo!!! I have pictures being posted to shutterfly. Login with email machipman @ aol and use a password of pctmike. No trail journal. I'm busier than I can believe and resting when not busy. The folks doing journals typically spend an hour a day on them. I just can't seem to put that much time together.
I met Tommy a couple of weeks ago and Jellybean from Phoenix and Captain Teacup from Prescott are out here.
Things going fairly well. No blisters. Still upright. heading into the Sierra Nevada finally after 700 miles of mostly desert. Enjpy the pics!!
