Snow coming this weekend?

Post by chikkutom »

Hi all,

According to the weather reports there is a chance of snow this weekend in the northern part of arizona (http://hikearizona.com/forecast.php?LAT ... =-111.6851). And I want to see snow this year. :) Can anyone tell me if this is a good time to see snow, meaning would there be enough snow to get some decent shots? If so when should i go, Saturday or sunday? Also any place suggestion? I was planning to go to West fork trail in Oak Creek, Sedona, but not sure if there will be enough snow. Also is there any good place in Payson to see snow? with streams or some nice scenery?

Thanks for you help.

It was incredible! We still have feathers rotting in shady and northern aspects.

Our 6 inches of snow got rained on today. But it is snowing again. Should be interesting to see what happens...

I just got in from a 3 mile "hike" around the alleys of Tempe with my dog. I love putting on all the warm layers and raingear ... even rain pants! ... and enjoying it for a while. Its especially nice knowing that my fireplace is right around the corner.

I'm currently trying to figure out how I can remember this cold chill I feel when August comes around. :-k

I'd like to see how low the snow level drops tonight. The McDowells should have snow on them in the morning. Hopefully it won't be too cloudy to see. Four Peaks should look spectacular.

I'm also looking forward to this pattern continuing for another week or more. Snow (and rain) is good. I noticed that SRP is releasing water down the Salt River because the system is too full to handle the upcoming runoff.

It sounds like you guys are having fun with all of the rain and snow. I loved that weather when I was living there. Someone please post a pic of 4Peaks if possible. I never get tired of seeing it covered in snow.

We are having a warm spell here in Ohio. About 2 feet of snow has melted in the last 4 or 5 days. Tomorrow and Wednesday are supposed to bring a lot of rain and temps possibly into the sixties. I have a small creek in my backyard that has been flowing quite strong for about 3 days now. The river in my town looks like it is up and rising. There is already flooding and damage from flowing ice about an hour or two north of me. I will be out and about looking for crazy stuff to take pictures of. If I get anything cool, I'll be sure to share.

Keep the snow coming, I don't have an open weekend to climb Humphrey's until April 4-5th. I might need to take a day of leave and just climb it during the week one day.

At the rate the storms are coming in I don't think there will be a view of the mountains around the valley any time soon. The clouds are supposed to be here all week and two more storms this week. The snow wasn't on the ground until we got to Payson tonight and it is raining and snowing here so far... Which makes it at 5000 ft about right here anyway...

I'd be taking a snow day if I didn't have a conference to prepare for this week. ](*,) I'll be looking for pictures from any of you who can get out there!

I haven't gotten a glimpse of any of the mountains near Scottsdale and Carefree yet due to clouds, but reports are that the snow level only got to near 4000ft last night before the precip ended. But I see that some preliminary snow reports include 1-2 inches in Safford, Sierra Vista, Tombstone, Bisbee, and Willcox.

The webcam from Sedona looks spectacular this morning. And Kitt Peak is snowed in. And reports are in that the Bradshaws are white starting from just above Bumble Bee.

Some of the snow stations are reporting these increases in depth since Saturday:
(I say "increases in depth" because snow settles over time, and if it was measured hourly like the National Weather Service requires, the storm totals would be higher. As an example, the NWS is reporting 29" at the FLG airport during the same timeframe)
SF Peaks: 25"
Promontory Butte: 32"
Happy Jack: 25"
Baker Butte: 27"
Heber : 23"
Mormon Mtn: 24"
Workman Creek: 23"
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Thanks for the info guys....I did go to Payson, but couldnt make it to the top of the rim coz of zero visibility! But did stop at Tonto Creek for some stream action.

Looks like the flickr links got deleted man... Can't do any offsite linking. Why not post the shots on the main page? Then everyone will see them! They're good shots, although hiking away from the bridge a bit would have made the pics of Tonto Creek even better ;)

We only had 4 inches of snow at our house this morning with two inches in town no problems getting out. Both roads to the rim were closed though this morning. There was snow down to Sunflower but nothing after that.
