What are your views on naturists/nudists? Has anyone come upon a naked hiker/camper and what was the outcome ?

I guess I could try nude hiking but I'd need to find a place that sold Bullfrog SPF 45 by the gallon!

APPENZELL, Switzerland - Voters in the heart of the Swiss Alps have banned naked hiking after dozens of mostly German nudists started rambling through their picturesque region.

By a show of hands citizens of the tiny canton of Appenzell Inner Rhodes voted overwhelmingly at their traditional open-air annual assembly to impose a $176 fine on violators. (Suggested, but not adopted, was an additional penalty of being made to post-hole for one mile in crusty snow 4 feet deep. ;) )

Only a scattering of people on Sunday opposed the ban on the back-to-nature activity that took off last autumn.

The cantonal government recommended the ban after determining that citizens had found nude hiking to be "thoroughly disturbing and irritating."

A similar legal move is expected in neighboring Appenzell Outer Rhodes with legislation being prepared against "this shameless behavior."

I don't think you're doing your cause much good by ranting and raving. I for one don't have an "irrational fear" of the human body, nor is my body a "tool of sin" (well, except on occasional Saturday nights).

And it's interesting that you automatically assume that because I don't particularly care to see your bare bum on the trail, that I must be some kind of religious zealot. Yes, I do go to church, but frankly, you sound much more like a zealot than I do. And you know, the only thing worse than mindless blathering for religion is ... mindless blathering against it.

Australia is closing it's beaches to nude bathers. They used to back when we first started going there in 1988. But more and more beaches are being posted for no nudes...

If I was out hiking with my neice and some asshat saunters up showing the full monty, I'm not sure exactly what I would do, but it would end up very badly for the hippy-past-his-prime.

Put yourself in that position, how would you like it if your young daughter or neice was out enjoying the wilderness and had to see some naked jackass?

Europeans are more open about nudity. Yet they don't even allow people to hike nude. Go to Europe if you want to spent time on a nude beach that is maked "nude beach", otherwise save yourself the embarrassment and wear some clothes. If you want to hike nude, find or buy some private property and knock yourself out, but stay off public land.

Why is it always guys who are against this, and it' always guys who don't want to see other guys and they don't want "innocent" young girls seeing them either?

Dang, I do occasionally miss the 70's--back when I was an "innocent" young girl, enjoying Black's Beach! I do think people are far too prudish. And the most prudish ones always will say, "I'm not a prude, but..."

I really don't care about nude beaches, nude hiking, or nude anything these days. Been there, done that, so what, big flippin' deal. I don't care if you have clothes on or not. I'm desensitized, I think that is the point. In the 60's and 70's a lot of us deliberately desensitized ourselves against those first feelings of shock when you see people walking around naked. We did it on purpose, because we thought the whole darned world was too uptight, and one way to get past that was to go to a (at that time legal) nude beach where 30,000 men, women and children of all ages would be enjoying the sunshine on any given summer's day.

Nowadays it just boggles my mind how people get so excited about it. Get over it!
