Wet Beaver from Apache Maid Cabin

Post by hippiepunkpirate »

Anybody have any info on accessing Wet Beaver Canyon from Apache Maid Cabin, hiking down through Jack's Canyon? From the map it looks doable, but I wonder if its worth it.

:sl: It's only 13 miles. Each way. From the top of Apache Maid Mtn to its intersection w/ the Bell Trail http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=384 Pack a lunch.
Looks like there isn't anything other than bush-whacking and boulder-hopping down that particular Jacks Canyon to Wet Beaver.

I definitely wasn't thinking about the Apache Maid Trail from the top of Apache Maid, I've most definitely read the triplogs and such. On the the TrailDEX map, using the MyTOPO overlay, where FR 620 crosses Jack's Canyon there is a very short spur road (FR 620B) that runs up to "Apache Maid Cabin". That's what I was referring to. I'm sure it's also at least 13 miles to get from Apache Maid Cabin to the Bell Trail, but I was thinking more of like a five mile trip each way. I'm also certain it only requires bush-whacking and boulder-hopping, but I was just curious if there was anything interesting be seen in the upper reaches. Mainly if the creek flows to any extent up that high in the canyon.

Are you going in from Waldrip Place?If so it's rugged but quite doable-the springs start in 1/2 mile or so downcanyon-be prepared to swim almost immediatly -it may be too cold yet for most people.The road in is 4 wheel only in a couple spots.

@thesoloist
Thanks, good to know. I have a Saturn coupe so I guess getting out there on my own is out of the question. I'm very interested in checking it out though.

I don't know the area, but am curious if people are figuring ways to legally get around the backpacking ban, and still be backpacking?

Do you think a ranger is going to actually hike?
Just don't park at the Bell Trailhead.

It's legal to camp as long as your are 5+ miles from the Bell TH.
