Soon available, the 352 page Superstitions guide we've been waiting for... "Superstition Wilderness Trails East" by Carlson/Stewart (he, she who would bring us the "hikers guide to the superstition wilderness") is the newest hiking publication by Clear Creek Publishing and should be on shelves countrywide (hopefully) very soon. There are over 40 hikes listed in the new book, many maps and guides, and of course, local history of the cowboys and miners who made this wilderness so richly glorified.
And to top it off... on page 4 there is an acknowledgement of "..all the folks who wrote comments on hikearizona.com and provided us with updates"
Thanks, Jack and Elizabeth, we've been anticipating this great resource for several years. the time has come!

One interesting trip occurred in December of 1975. I accompanied a group of adventurers that included Dr. William F. “Bill” Wright, the Superintendent of Schools for Apache Junction, Nyle Leatham, a photographer for the Arizona Republic, and our guide, Bud Lane.
On our return trip from Angel Basin back to Tortilla Trailhead, Bud Lane decided to take a short cut through Goat Canyon. That was a mistake. We ended up a day late and overdue"
Some 'guide'... reminds me of me.....
I'm gonna guess that they were horseback, though......

This book is available! Just picked up a copy at Wild World of Maps on Indian School. They had 2 more copies on the shelf. Look awesome!

Re: Carlson Stewart "Supes Wilderness East"
I just finished reading this one (yes, straight through like a regular book). Unlikely as it may seem, I think it's actually more informative than the first book. I'll definitely be upgrading to the revision (Superstition Trails West) when it comes out. I hope it includes info on registered brands as the Trails East does; that cleared up a few of my questions.

Does anyone know of an eta on the Superstition Wilderness Trails West book? I really love the Hikers Guide and the East book. I noticed a post earlier in this thread about the book possibly being done around end of 2010. It says that is very optimistic.
