Overnight in Flag?!

I am fairly new to hiking in Az and have done most my hiking on the RIM. I am looking to do a light day hike (2-3miles) in Flag area where I can set up a fairly remote camp, relax, camp over night and hike back in the next day. Looking for something that is not overly hiked and fairly wooded since I will be hammock camping. Anyone familiar with the Flag area trails and have any good suggestions!?

One option might be the Kachina Trail on the south side of the peaks. But it's an out-and-back or car shuttle and there may be camping restrictions along the trail since last summer's Schultz fire. (I'm sure JimH or another user can answer that for sure).

Another option that might fit your query is Fisher Point or Sandys Canyon south of Flagstaff. Of course to the southwest of Flag you get into the hikes in the forest north of Sedona that might also be interesting to you.

The other hikes near there tend to be peaks, so it would climbing up one way and down on the return.

There's a lot around Flagstaff to choose from. I'm attaching a link of the HAZ TrailDex map focused in on Flagstaff with the only option selected as "Coconino NF". You can change the search options (distance, etc.) and search again for different results.

Thank you for the info and I will take a look at this deeper. I am less concerned about the quality of the hike as I am about being able to get back into the wood to set up a camp that will not be close to other over the holiday weekend. Is there much water up in the Flag area or SW of Flag that can be filtered or would I need to pack my own water in? Any help is cool...never been up that way!

In general you'll need to pack water...unless you want to drink from stock tanks. Springs are more common up on the Peaks, otherwise they tend to be few and far between.
