Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
Short notice, but wanting to head up to Reavis Ranch the weekend. (Sat and Sun) I had this planned with a couple of friends, but everyone pussed out on me. And my wife isn't very comfortable with me going by myself, so figured maybe someone might want to go. I plan on leaving Mesa area about 6am on Sat and plan to be back afternoonish on Sun. If interested, PM me for details.

My experience with both either the north or south trail into Reavis during this type of weather is to go to a plan B.Grasshopper wrote:Suggest you closely follow the upcoming weekend NWS forecast as conditions seem forecasted to change rapidly by ~Sunday.kevinweitzel75 wrote:Things are looking good for this hike this coming weekend.

Save this trip for the second week of April when the apple trees will be in blossom and the roads and trails have dried out.

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
Been checking the weather every couple of hours hoping for a change.
well, not looking to change. Trying to work out a time to go with someone, finding someone to watch my son (wife works weekends), and working around my "on call" work schedule has been a nightmare the last few weeks. Also might be moving in the next couple of weeks. Finally have everything fall into place, and now the weather decides to turn for the worse.
Not to worried about hiking in the rain, its just the Supes. Never know what to expect in the Supes.

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
Looks like snow up at the Ranch. Would have been a blast, but not very safe. Second week in April is my birthday weekend, so probably looking at the first week on April or maybe the third week. Third week might be good to see the blossoms on the apple trees due to a late snow fall, if the snow really matters right now. What's everbodys thoughts?

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
Cold damp weather will prolong the bringing on of the apple blossoms so the third week in April may work. Glad you did not go in this weekend as there was even snow at Tortilla Flat. Wet, cold, snow, mud and flowing washes makes for a not so fun backpack trip. At least when I used to do volunteer work at Reavis we had the ranch house and fireplace to keep us protected and partially warm. Once in late December I saw 11 degrees one morning.

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
I love the cold. Just don't know if my 3 season tent would have done much good up there.
. Trudging through the snow and mud wouldn't be to fun either, not to mention the drive out of there, 4 wheel drive or not.

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
This has been replaned for April 14 & 15, weather permitted. Looking forward to getting out, its been a very stressful month, lack of work, week in the hospital with my son, moving plans, ect. So a well deserved birthday weekend is in order.

Next to dogs, hiking seems to be the perfect Stress reliever!! And a nice Birthday present as well. Wish I could join you. Enjoy!!!

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
Just got back from a day hike here. The road does appear to be recently graded. Very doable by car all the way to the trail head. The trail also recently went trough some maintenece in the past 1-2 weeks. It was in the best condition from the times I have been here previously. Barely any water until you get to the ranch though.

How is the water situation at the ranch? I'll be down there in a few days.

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
One we got to about a mile of the ranch the water was fine. At the ranch itself, ya no problem

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
Still planning for up coming weekend, watching the weather closely. Possible rain.
Unfortunately this will be the last weekend I will be able to do this.

@HippyHaley
No, but it would be nice to publish the GPS coordinates so everyone can use this source of clean water when they visit Reavis.
Often times the stream isn't flowing very well and horseman also sometimes tether their horses next to or in the water.
IE don't use the stream unless you have to.
The following link is a picture of the truck frame that had been converted to a trailor to haul the apples.
When you find this you are within about 100 feet of the spring.

Re: Reavis Ranch from Rogers TH
I searched for it, but was camped on the south end of the ranch. By the time we made it to that area it was getting dark and we left our packs at camp. I didn't want to try hiking back to camp with my 12 year old nephew in the dark with out a flashlight.

Yep, I've taken water there from a pool with a big, old horse plop in it. :yuck:SuperstitionGuy wrote:Often times the stream isn't flowing very well and horseman also sometimes tether their horses next to or in the water.![]()
