I am currently socked in with heavy rain on the Rim... :y:

Safford just got hit hard with thunder, lightning & rain. It was a soaker and the streets are now flooding! Great beginning to the 2013 monsoon season down here in the southeast!

We had a nice little sprinkle a while ago which freshened things up, but it really didn't qualify as "rain."

Not rubbing it in or anything... :D

By the way, if you're even thinking about coming up here this weekend, good luck. I think half of the Phoenix population must have had the entire week off. Forget any crazy idea about solitude. Most of the Developed Campsites are already full and dispersed Camping is already pretty crowded too.

I'm cold...

Flag had almost 1 and 3/4 of an inch at the airport. We've had quite a bit here, in the Tularosa Basin, too. Hopefully, and radar makes it appear so, the Organs are getting rain and the Needle trail will be better in a few days.

We started our Pivot Rock Canyon hike yesterday at 74 degrees and ended in the early afternoon at 86.

Guess we had it pretty lucky then. Driving on 87 from Strawberry to the FR616 turn we did not see one vehicle. And from the time we left the highway, did the hike and returned to it the only thing that reminded us of civilization was a fire-fighting aircraft headed in a southerly direction. Other than that we were ALONE!

Summer in the White Mountains has always been amazing, especially after living in Tucson for 13 years. It's always funny to me that just about when I think the temperature has become absolutely perfect then all my coworkers and everyone else I talk to are complaining about the heat! This has been the case the past several weeks. We may have spiked to 100 one day last week, but mostly we've been in the 80's and 90's, I think. No one keeps any records around here that I know of. You'll go to the store, and the cashier will use the so-called "heat" as a conversation starter. If this is "heat" I want more of it! (Maybe I should move back to Kona!)

No way I'll ever spend the winter here again, though. Ugh. My house seems to get colder every year! And I'm no DIYer, don't want to be, have no interest in houses, so I am not going to spend a lot of time trying to do something about making it hold heat better.

I can relate. Though Flagstaff had plenty of people who enjoyed summer there, I do recall a few who complained about, "the heat", when the high was 73. I didn't mind December to February, as winter there was sort of nice as every one after 2007 had enough snow for me to snowshoe Humphrey and Sedona was an hour away, but I did find the March, and especially the April to May period to be cold and windy. It was slightly better in Kayenta, and summer last year was great once the spring dust storms were over, but well...

No sense in staying somewhere you don't like.

On, the rain news front, a severe storm set up over the Organ MTS last night, with a lot of rain (hopefull). So, it shouldn't be a dust bowl, anymore. I'm headed over to summit the Needle with a LC local. Should be good.

Had some steady rain early this morning. Not sure how long it was coming down, though.

Had to do a double take at your signature, Jim.

Woohoo!! First gully washer of the season in Round Valley! I got kind of wet coming out of the grocery store, and left my groceries in the car when I got home, and made a dash for the door. I'll get them when it stops, in a few minutes. Otherwise, you know, I might melt...
