23 here in Tempe overnight, still only 26 now at 8:30. Weird to see Tucson schools with a "snow day" today because the gas outage has left schools without heat and broken water pipes. Sounds like a mess!

Much warmer here in Flag today. It was around 30 when I was picking up kids this morning. They commented on how warm it is! It is supposed to get to 41 here today. I am glad that it is over. I don't mind mild cold, but negative temps during the day--ugh!

I sure wish I was in AZ right now. We're out of places to put the snow. The ice dam on the eaves is about 8" thick, which means the meltwater is going mostly into the eaves, but a little bit down into the walls. :(
That's only happened once before in the 23 years I've lived here, which was also the snowiest year on record. With 2 1/2 months of possible snow left and no sign of change in the weather pattern, we stand a good chance of setting a new record.

Oh, my gosh it was so much nicer today. What a relief after all that cold!

Edit: Just realized I am repeating myself. But hey, it was COLD. My pinkies hurt! Wah! ;)

Storm kicked off with a -3 degree night (blew out all my plumbing, so no water until I can get into that project)... next night. up to 7 degrees... last night, 15 degree low. Days hovering below 20, except today getting back above freezing. Snow melting off around town, but the mountain nicely buried. A bit more winter than I was looking forward to... but, rare.

Ah. You are receiving it now. Weather patterns around here do tend to trend to the southeast. It is exactly what we had a few days ago.

So, is it ever going to snow again this winter, or is it time for me to change this back to a monsoon thread?

Jim, you might consider getting creative with the thread title. Something catchy that has to do with DROUGHT.

Once upon a time, a dry cold would have sounded pretty good. However, it doesn't play nice with my pneumonia. :(

Oh, ouch! Right now you have pneumonia? Are you staying home and getting a ton of rest, and drinking tons of fluid? Hope so.

One of my pet peeves: Too many people try to go to work when they are sick. It's ridiculous. Then they pass it all around, and also it takes them forever to get well. I believe in total bed rest, even for a head cold. The reason you get sick in the first place is your immune system didn't fight it off because you compromised it with a lack of rest.

I'll take 25 degrees in Arizona over 40 degrees in the east and midwest almost any day. The dry cold does not penetrate like the damp cold does back in the humidity belt. When I made a early morning drive to the Show Low Home Depot on Thursday morning, my dashboard thermometer said it was 7 degrees. With no wind it was relatively comfortable with just a fleece jacket and no gloves. I thought about how miserable 7 degrees use to feel back in Missouri (pronounced Misery). However, I much prefer Tucson winters over Show Low winters :)

Yeah, I do miss those nice desert winters. Snow sports are fine, if there is snow! On the other hand, snow makes my bus driving job scary and dangerous.

I don't know if it's the altitude, the attitude, or just perception, but 25 degrees in Flagstaff and 25 degrees in Phoenix seem vastly different. In Flag that would require a jacket and maybe some gloves, but in Phoenix it feels like you're going to freeze to death.

Same with the heat; 90 in Phoenix is comfortable. 90 in Flagstaff is miserable.

I don't know about 25 in the Valley, as I have never experienced it, but 25 up here in fall-winter-spring isn't bad once you get used to it by early October (at night). 90 in the Valley is fine, and I think 90 up here is fine, too. Last summer we hit 90 only for 1 day (if I recall correctly) in early June. It was great. I loved being out in it. I would have done a hike if my ribs weren't hurting me from my fall on the Peaks. I look forward to living somewhere with more 90 degree days this summer.

I stayed home for the first week and holed up in my office for most of the second. Unfortunately, I didn't get as much rest as I should have, because I couldn't hire anybody to shovel the driveway, which I've had to do three times since I got sick. Most of the pros aren't accepting new customers, or only taking what they think are easy jobs.

It's looking like there will be a pattern change late next week and we might get some storms from Thursday into the weekend. Unless they are good wet storms that deliver real snow, I would just prefer we move into spring already. If it's going to mascaraed as spring it might as well be it.
