Hello Everyone,
My friend and I are coming in from Michigan to do the ridgeline including an overnight. We will start from siphon draw in late afternoon and camp not long after we get by flatiron.
Can anybody recommend a good spot to camp other then on flatiron? Or is flatiron good? Will that leave too much for the next day? We are backpacking May 1st or 2nd.
Also should we use a GPS? I have been up on flatiron a few time and studied the ridgeline terrain map many times.
Any suggestions or incite?
Thanks,
Greg

Re: Overnight Ridgeline Help
I don't remember if there were any flat (or open) spots to pitch a tent at Alder Saddle. I do remember getting stuck in SUPER dense brush on the way up to it (and getting scratched up pretty good). No catclaw, though.

Yes! It can be a little....intimidatingjoe bartels wrote:The bigger concern would be figuring out how to get down the scree chute having never gone up it.

Re: Overnight Ridgeline Help
Hey Guys, we are back in MI and we had an awsome visit to AZ. My friend and I plan on getting together to sort some photos and do at least a couple triplogs.
Well it wasnt quite as hot as I thought it was going to be at first, so on the first evening we went to the top above wind cave for a quick warm up hike, the next day did Browns Peak then took a day off and did Flat Iron with an overnight the day after that. All went great, my legs are quite sore today but it's the good sore. Cant wait to come back.
