Supai Evacuated

Post by nonot »

The Redland Dam burst has caused Havasu Canyon to be evacuated. Hopefully everyone is getting out safely. Having visited earlier this year, I hope that the destruction is minimized and that the canyon and its residents are able to recover quickly.

I believe the town has been wiped out once before by another dam failure several decades ago.

It sounds like it will be closed to the public at least the rest of the year. There was a call on my machine from Supai saying my reservations for next month at the campground would have to be canceled as well as all others for the rest of the year.

So......will they give you your money back? I'm assuming you paid half the money up front with your credit card?

On the other hand I have been there once when they didn't have their act together to even collect the money. My friend had sent them a check which they said they received, because they gave her a reservation. But they never cashed the check. Then, when we got there in the middle of a small spring flood, they refused to take any more money. They said we were all paid up! So my friend waited a couple of months but they never did cash that check. It seems to me there was another time we went when we paid only half the money for some reason.
