Superstition Ridgeline December 20

Post by rally_toad »

Okay so I had already asked this weekend off for another trip, but since te-wa canceled on West Boulder Canyon... Im thinking that this saturday would be perfect to tackle the Ridgeline. One that I've wanted to do for a while...

We could meet in Mesaville at Home Depot on Power & US60 and car pool from there. Someplace with a big lot on the way there. No need for all of us to
drive to AJ.

True. Id probably rather us all meet somewhere closer and drive to AJ together. I wont be in any hurry at all to get home so Im fine with riding back to Peralta. Besides Im sure we will all be hungry after that killer hike... Dirtwater springs or the BK anyone?? lol

Hmmm I don't leave for my parent's untill the 22nd so I might be able to come along on this one. Are we doing up Siphon's Draw and then down the ridgeline to Carney Springs or the opposite way. I know last time I did Siphon's Draw it whooped the crap out of me but I'm in a bit better shape now and won't be taking 2 whole freaking gallons of water up with me (I was way overestimating that one ^_^). As long as I pack a light daypack I think I could make it if you did Siphon's Draw first but I know I would have a much easier time if that was the end of the hike.

Its going to be hard and a climb either way we do it. Same elevation gain going up Carney as coming up Siphon Draw to the Flatiron. We're making it to the Ridgeline either way we do it. So there is no "easy" way to do this hike.

Ya I guess it's just going to be brutal either way. I think I'd be down for this though, definitely a hike I've been wanting to do for a while.

There's also a Lowe's at Higley & 60, if that doesn't cause anyone to backtrack...it's just north of 60

Lowes works too. Tortoise and I have used that location in the past. We just need to set a firm place so there's no confusion.

Stiller, if you end up being in, it looks like we'll have all of our crew from Brown's Peak a couple of weeks ago! Plus a few others...totally cool :)

I just read an article from the azcentral about the Ridgeline hike (a Fritski post on another forum post on the site), and it recommends starting at Carney and ending at Siphon Draw. Anyone who has done it have any opinion on that?

We'll go ahead and do that... (start at Carney and end at Siphon Draw). I dont know that it matters much either way.

The Lowe's we are meeting at, what side of the street is it on when you get to Higley and the 60. Have been up there before and never noticed one, probably wasnt paying very good attention.

Less than a week left to commit and get ready for this one everyone, its gonna be a fun one. Now with that being said, 6 people have signed up, anyone have a car that holds six? For driving us all from Siphon Draw back to Carney Springs, I might be able to drive a car that hold 6 but I'd have to ask and make sure.

Lowes is north of the 60 and on the east side of Higley.

I have only done the ridgeline from Carney Springs to Siphon Draw, but I think I would like it going the other way. Siphon Draw really kills my knees on the way down.

It's actually on the west side of Higley...north of 60.

I'm not sure if starting at Carney Springs is better or not. I'm up for it, but don't really know either way. If I need to drive a second vehicle to transport us all, I can...of course, then I guess we'd need 2 second vehicles :)

My bad! For some reason I can't picture it. I guess I'll refrain from giving directions since I no longer live in AZ. :(

Both vehicles will need to hold 6 persons if we only want to take two vehicles. One shuttles us all from Lost Dutchman Park to Carney Spring to start and the second shuttles us back to Carney Spring again at the end. My Mercury Sable will hold six. So if we have a 2nd vehicle (6 person) we're set until the 7th person commits.

Ok I will be driving a Toyota Sienna(cool car, I know), that holds 7 people, though if we stuff it full it will be tight for the 3 sitting in the back. So right now if I drive and Wally drives we should be good, since only 6 people are committed.

Alright I had to go and make it 7 people : P Now that it seems the weather will be decent I'm down. Its supposed to be raining probably till thursday so I kind of wonder if we might not have to haul all our water up there with us. Anybody know how long rain usually stays in the few streams up top?

there is a small drainage on the backside of the peak 5040? that may have a little water a few days after it rains. I would recommend you plan on bringing all you need and a little bit more.
