Beginners Hike/camping
Looking for suggestions on a worth while area to take my son on his first hike/overnight camp trip. Close to N phx area is best. Just looking to hike a mile or so> this way he gets to carry all his own stuff. AND if it goes foul, we are still close to the truck to leave. Right now the only two ideas i have are Camp Creek Falls area. OR Down to Burfind Hotel in Gillett, Arizona.

4 pounds. I have no doubt about your expertise-- I know you're much more experienced than me in this. But when it comes down to it, lightening my pack by 2 pounds isn't worth $260.te-wa wrote:youre looking at a 4 plus pound tent. guaranteed. pro'lly closer to 5 1/2.

You and your son had had a good time together, everything else is a distant second in importance. And you've got a great story about making it rain inside to tell.

totally agreed-- I hope to run into you again! I wasn't thinking anything heated was going on. Who gets mad over someone else's tent? Re: Beginners Hike/camping
I carried a 7.5 pd two man tent for quite a few years. Its my condo tent.... nothing like stretching out and being comfy. I have two other tents that are bigger and heavier
and one that is lighter. I can't remember who said this....Im gonna kick your butt in climbing....answer I didn't know climbing was a competitive sport. If your strong enough to carry the weight, I always side with comfyness. I think the only reason I bought my Hubba was so I could fit more meat in my pack. I love my Hammock in my backyard....but I still haven't been able to fall asleep in it...even after a 30 mile dayhike.
