I thought for sure there'd be a Dehydrator thread on here already but I haven't seen one so here it goes...
If you use a dehydrator, whats the best stuff you've dried or the best recipe using your dried ingredients? Any horror stories on things you've tried and won't do again?

I made up a batch of 3 bean chilli -used 93%beef and drained excess liquids before putting on the dehydrator for 8 hours. When I am at camp I do instant rice and add the chilli and let stand for a bit. Goes good with red wine!

Re: Dehydrator Recipes / Ideas
I had good luck with leftover Stir Fry Noodles and Beef with Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Mushrooms a month ago so I tried it again last night. When I rehydrated it the beef was a bit tough like jerky but tasty.
I dehydrate whole wheat pasta, spaghetti sauce (processed into powder in the blender), and ground turkey each separately. That way I'm not locked into having to create the same meal each time. But the "spaghetti" dinner is almost always present on a multi-night backpack. Another favorite of mine: a cheese package out of old box of Kraft Mac and Cheese (I bought too many boxes from costco a few years ago), powdered milk, butter, veggies, and a tuna pack. I'm not sure what I'll use when I run out of the Kraft boxes - any ideas?

For the stroganoff, are there other recipes other than the cream of mushroom soup? Also, when you do the sour cream - what heat setting do you use and do you dehydrate the full fat stuff?kate wrote:cream of mushroom soup (rehydrated and mixed with TVP and dehy veggies for Stroganoff)
Sour cream (for use in the stroganoff)

You can find powdered cheese sauce mixes with the rest of the sauce mixes. They are yummy in mashed potatoes, too. Although, it might be less expensive to just buy a 50 cent box of mac and cheesebknorby wrote:I'm not sure what I'll use when I run out of the Kraft boxes - any ideas?

I know you can get powdered sour cream from Packit Gourmet.
