Phoenix Upscale Mexican Food
My annual (national) professional conference is coming to the Phoenix Convention Center this week, so it's my turn to play the host. Now, I know the kinds of places to send folks who want 'traditional' down home Phoenix style Mexican fare (Carolinas, Mi Patio, Comedor Guadalajara). However, I know some of my peeps are going to be looking for more upscale type stuff - in Tucson, I'd send them to Cafe Poca Cosa or even El Charro. But I've got no idea where to go in the Phoenix area for this kind of thing! I'm used to grabbing a taco from a stand, not buying $200 bottles of tequila for the table.
Suggestions from this group would be great. Closer to downtown is better, but I realize that it is the Phoehemeoth...and I will have my car if necessary...

@writelots
Just to clarify, its the Barrio Cafe. The Barrio Cantina and Grill is something different.

Re: Phoenix Upscale Mexican Food
Barrio Cafe is easily the best place in metro Phoenix that I know of to go to if the goal is a hip, premium quality, and expensive meal. Very good place, and highly recommended.

Well?
The dining establishment chosen?
Or did this turn into a 30 pack of Bud Light, Filibertos and Papago Park?....

Think I'll try this soon.rlrjamy wrote:There is some guy named John on HAZ who owns upscale Mex places...one in Chandler and one in Scottsdale. You can probably find a shot of Tokillya for $50 or more. Both are probably a half hour from downtown though.

Juan Jaime's Tacos and Tequila
2510 W. Chandler Blvd
Chandler
It is located on Chandler Blvd just East of the 101. It is next to the Outback Steakhouse.
Scottsdale restaurant has the same name, but I don't have that address. Should be easy to look up.
