Hello my fellow Hazers,
Here we are again.Someone once told me that as you get older the years go faster. It sure feels like it.This year sure seems to have went way to fast. How about sharing some of your New Year Hazolutions and let us know how you did.
Well I (with a lot of help) did finish the AZT.Thanks to everyone that helped. What an awesome time it was! I did get to hike with a few more Hazers this year too. Thanks I hope many more in 2013.I will have to give it a little more thought for 2013.For now I would just say lots more safe and fun hiking with lots more Hazers.I hope you all have a great safe, healthy, fun year. One more thing.Let us find GPS Joe.God Bless!

It would be nice if the aches and pains in my feet would stop for a solid year. I'll add that to my res.

Be open to new experiences and enjoy every moment of what could potentially be the best and most interesting year of my life ...so far.

Hopefully next year will not be the hell this year has been ( personally)
Would like to return to the Winds
Renew my pass port and head south
Salton Sea, Rio Grande, other kayak trips
Turtle Mtns, Ca
True high point in Cabeza Prieta range
Back to the Forbidden zone to find the rumored 100 foot long pet wood and shark's teeth the size of your hand.
Perhaps a return to the LMT, but I only have so much vacation days!

I think someone should resolve to do a back packing trip into the Gila NF to the McKenna Park area. Probably not me.
In a related vein, anyone have any suggestions for back pack food for the gluten intolerant, oat and dairy allergic? I need to repair my pack strap, too, as that has been broken since January 2nd.

You're aware that cous cous is a wheat product, right? I would probably do dates, freeze dried meat, tuna, fresh fruits, and that sort of thing. I would also have to limit any trip to 3 days. Which, is fortunately enough time for me to do a trip to McKenna, if leaving from Woody' Coral area. 1 day in, a day there, and a day back.
Peanut butter for 3 days?! Ugh!
BTW, I see you got an honorable mention in the NWS photo contest.

Jim_H: Bora Bora bars are gluten free. (Plus kosher and a whole bunch of other healthy eating tick boxes.) Might have oats though ...

Quinoa? Lentils? Black (or any) Beans?
Do you have a dehydrator? I have an awesome Lentil and Potato breakfast that I take on every backpacking trip.

Your hikes will be enhanced, and your free-time will diminish.

2013 goals
1 (most important): Less time wasted on drama. I am already taking steps to make this a reality.
2: Get outside more for fun. Whether it be hiking or biking, it just makes me feel better.
3: Ride (and finish) the 122 mile course in the Viva Bike Vegas Gran Fondo.
4: Complete my last section of the Tonto Trail - the Gems. Most sections thus far have been solo, so I am hoping for that to work out for this last section, but how to get reach the trailhead remains an open question.
5: Begin planning PCT hike. This has been a dream of mine for many years.

My 2012 goal was to hike/walk 1200 miles. Little did I know that I'd lose 15 pounds in the process! I'm only 47 miles from the target which I think is pretty impressive since I flew 100,000+ miles for work and took up rock climbing. I don't think that goal has decreased the quality of my hikes - I just added a few boring hikes in the middle of the week when I can.
I'm going to continue the 1200 mile goal for 2013 since it obviously has healthy benefits considering my crazy schedule. I also want to learn to lead rock climbing - even if it is only 5.4 routes. In addition, I want to improve my photography so I can have a full page in the HAZ calendar!

Goals for 2013:
1) Get my knee repaired or replaced.
2) Take the grandsons hiking in the Sups
3) Stay ahead of my only competition in PixelTrivia, Hike HAZbot.
Does anybody know his score anyway?
