So I found this inside a tree

While I was gathering wood for a fire, I pulled back on a piece of wood on a dead tree. The piece gave but did not break free. As I pried open a gap in the old wood, something shiny caught my eye. I thought bullet at first but it became too long. I finally managed to pry it out with my knife, giving up on getting the wooden splinter section free.
It is soft heavier metal and not attracted to magnets. With research I'm leaning towards bar-and-ring clasp for jewelry or watch chain piece.
This really bit at my curiosity bone, because how the dickens did it get into an old dead tree well off any trail? Also where did it come from?

Oh, wow, I did not even catch the Star of David. I just glanced at it and thought it was an astrological thing. Embarassing. If there is no name on it, the Jewish Heritage Center might be able to help out: https://azjhs.org

Years ago I was a goldsmith and I had Jewish clients bring me the cremains of relatives to put into pendants.
Although traditionally cremation was frowned upon things have changed and I do remember having to put an inscribed piece in with the cremains.
I hate to say it but it needs to be returned.
What is odd about this piece is it's a watch fob. So maybe it was grandpas or it was all they had.
Research supports, contents are not remains. And the jewelry with use of gold scroll, a taweez (ta'wiz) - which looks to be originated in Islamic culture.

The star looks astrology related with symbols around it.

Somehow...I just have a hard time picturing Michael as Bobby Brady..... :o :sl:

Very Interesting stuff though....I would definitely take the Scroll somewhere and see if you could have it translated....Maybe check with a couple of HAZer's that work at ASU...They might know someone....Chumley and Scott Kelley.....

I deal with a bunch of new age astrology people at the book store... I'll ask around about it.

Well at first I thought "Boy Scout," but it doesn't work:

UPDATE: I passed the note on to a friend with more friends and got this info back:
A. Aravind --- Its Hindu only and not ashes. Many of us wear a tabeez(an indian locket) where the priest from the temple inscribe our star (sun sign) details inside it. I do have one. I believe someone lost it in the forest while trekking or something. I am not sure about the language, guessing it must be Sanskrit.

I would try to find the owner. Maybe Craig's List or Back page. Had the wife look at pics, she studies different religions/cultures. She agrees with last findings. "That's probably someone's astrological birth certificate. Also possibly someone left in the tree to return a lost loved one back the earth."
"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the road less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
