What motivates you?
What motivates you in choosing your next hike or other outdoor activity? I'm not referring to your everyday, local "workout" hike, but something bigger. Do you seek out new places to explore simply for the thrill of adventure, or do you feel driven to complete a certain goal (like hiking the Arizona Trail, for example)? Perhaps you live in the moment and go for whatever sounds good at the time? Or is it something else entirely?

Re: What motivates you?
Being able to just be - letting my mind wander freely. This leads to feelings of calmness and serenity. Unfortunately, disrupted by rude hikers, so I tend to select less popular or off-trail hiking.
Tough hikes help improve my mental focus and problem-solving.
Curiosity about what's around the bend or what's up there? Sometimes, a definitive goal helps.
The small things that can only be appreciated at ground level. There have been hikes I never made it past the trailhead - just sat or stood and watched something fascinating.

Oh, I have no problem with that... my mind not only wanders freely, sometimes it gets up and runs away at warp speed.autumnstars wrote:letting my mind wander freely.
Hey, wait a minute! warp speed? => warped mind?? Nah...
