I would like to chat with someone who has hiked the entire AZT nobo. I am planning on starting on the AZT as early in 2016 as possible. I have the guide books. Maps are on backorder.
I have questions like, can I have the entire AZT loaded into my GPS?
Water challenges- do I have to really do the trail 2x- first time to spot water jugs?
I will be unsupported and hiking solo, probably. Is a late Feb start too early?
I would really like to phone chat with someone on their AZT hike. You can leave me a private message if you are interested.
I will be 67 the end of December. I want to get this trail done in 2016.
Suggestions, insights, comments, warnings, condolences, all are welcome.

@Trew
If you have a Garmin GPS you can load almost unlimited numbers of Waypoints if you convert them to POI's using Garmin's free POI loader software. Download it here: http://www.garmin.com/us/maps/poiloader
Or you can just get Guthooks and carry some means of keeping your phone charged.

Re: Planning to Hike the AZT in 2016- Help Please
I am still on track for an early March start on the AZT. I got hit with valley fever and was down and out for over a month, but the med is working and today I was up and down Picketpost and could breath and breath well. I am very hopeful right now.
I have the AZT program for my Garmin eTrex. and I am now arranging gear and making resupply boxes. I live in Florence and when I get to PicketPost I plan to take about a week off before heading out again.
And I do have a partner named Liz who uses the trail name LaZorra. We have backpacked in the Superstitions and we get along well together.
Hope to leave in 9 weeks now.
Only real concern right now is illegals coming across the border in at area where the AZT starts.

Just wear a U.S. Border Patrol cap and you will be just fine.Trew wrote:Only real concern right now is illegals coming across the border in at area where the AZT starts.

Not to worry, Obama said the border is secured.
