Naturist/nudist hiking
What are your views on naturists/nudists? Has anyone come upon a naked hiker/camper and what was the outcome ?

Re: Naturist/nudist hiking
I've run across a handful of nude hikers/swimmers around swimming holes & hot springs and I don't mind it too much though it is slightly awkward but my main complant is that it's always dudes.
What, no cute ladies out there representing their gender?

Yea, canyoneering is an extreme sport... EXTREMELY dramatic!!! =p

I would be scared of getting my... willy sunburned. Or coming in contact with a jumping cactus.

@azbackpackr
I was just talking to people who went out to Lemmon Pools last Sunday and they had not one, but two groups of nudists lettin' it all hang out when they got there. And that's not a very large pool, either.

Sunburning the little Weitzel I can understand, what you could be doing to a cactus I'm having a harder time with....kevinweitzel75 wrote:I would be scared of getting my... willy sunburned. Or coming in contact with a jumping cactus.

Re: Naturist/nudist hiking
Have you ever looked at the first couple pages of this thread? The person who started the thread posted only 3 times on HAZ, then beat feet, and presumably has no idea his thread has reached epic levels. Most of us responding now to this thread were not even members at the time it was started, in 2003. So, while Jim's weather thread has far surpassed the nudity thread in number of posts, this one is unique in its longevity.

Re: Naturist/nudist hiking
:STP: :A1: So I decided to get beyond our opinions and see what leading theologians and hiking experts had to say on this topic:
How about Pope John Paul II:
Sexual modesty cannot then in any simple way be identified with the use of clothing, nor shamelessness with the absence of clothing and total or partial nakedness. There are circumstances in which total nakedness is not immodest.... Nakedness as such is not to be equated with physical shamelessness. Immodesty is only present when nakedness plays a negative role with regard to the value of the person...The human body is not in itself shameful, nor for the same reasons are sensual reactions, and human sensuality in general. Shamelessness (just like shame and modesty) is a function of the interior of the individual
OK well how about Colin Fletcher - author of the well-known hiking compendium:
"By walking naked you gain an uplifting and almost delirious sense of simplicity. You become, in a new and surer sense, an integral part of the simple, complex world you are walking through. Then you are really walking."
The best dress for walking is nakedness. Colin Fletcher, "The Complete Walker III"
Just sayin'

Re: Naturist/nudist hiking
Wow, back in the 60's it was common... in the early 80's out in Big Bend hitting the tinajas with clothing would have been odd, and upper Texas Canyon was always sans clothes... with a group for 5 weeks in the Grand Canyon back in the 90's, most of the time all natural. But, that was then, this is now. Odd to have been at this so long as to see this kind of change in standard.
