Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Douglas, AZ now has recorded 10.12 inches of precip in July (though 28th). This is the wettest month of record since 1948, and first time more than 8 inches has been recorded in any month.

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Well, with 0.01 inches, or 1/100th of an inch required to tie the old record and 2/100 to set a new record, it seems very likely that Flag will have a new record for July rainfall, except that it finally dried out and it could not rain at all the next few days. Something which would be atypical given the month so far.

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
I suspect that will be the case, but with so little required, it might happen. As it stands, the July total is well over the previous 6 years monthly rain amount for the next wettest, which was January of 2010. It's basically the entire summer's quota, and then a pretty good summer (July to September). Sure, it could stop raining almost all together and a drought (short term) could develop by the end of August, but that is probably not likely. Unless something like a strong El Nino starts to develop as occurred in 2009 and the later half of last summer, my guess is this will continue to be at least a robust monsoon season for the future.
Now, will 2014 be a wet snowy winter? That is where my interest lies. I hope it is, or I hope for a very heavy series of Late December Pineapple Express lows to cover the north land in snow and deposit heavy rime ice accumulations over 11,000', just like 3 years before.

The winter precipitation is the more important. It would be nice to have an old fashioned bomber of a winter.

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Can FLG break the record in the next few hours? I thought they would fall short with a couple of dry days, but the radar looks like the airport has gotten something that should add up to .02 (currently not reporting any rainfall though!). Bellemont hasn't seen any radar echoes at all yet, but it looks like it might come soon.

I sure hope so, it would suck to fall .01 short of a record!

Well, that's a tie anyway, even though I don't like tying records (like our 39 consecutive days with max temps of 100 or higher in Tucson this year).

Yup, I was hoping to beat it, and prefer it be a solid amount, too.

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
It's good to read that Arizona's having a healthy monsoon, but I come to tell of a different weather phenomena that we're definitely not enjoying here in the Bay Area. The current weather pattern is funneling smoke from a few wildfires in southern Oregon right into northern California, the Bay Area in particular. It has looked like southern California the last few days with visibility cut in half, and a brownish, yellowish haze blocking out the sky. There were even an official warning for people with lung issues to stay indoors on Monday. Not good, but the sunsets have been cool. The blood-orange sun doesn't seem to lessen the annoyance of itchy eyes and a scratchy throat, however.

Very suspicious...the 7 o'clock weather for FLG is missing.

I wasn't interested in the radar loop because that is available, but the official data from the ASOS sensor.

Maybe the NSA is reviewing the data?
Or it could just be that the whole place is run by dope-smoking nau students? After all, they managed to get just 4 of the 12 "am" readings today

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
One of the .01 readings also says "trace" which means it would come in below the record.
It will be interesting to see what the official readings are when they're posted later tonight or tomorrow.

Hopefully that area of precip over the Sedona area now will drift or expand NNE and get the job done before midnight...got 3.5 hours left.
