Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Hey, I'm with ya on that cold/wet aversion, Jim! Summits are sure fun to visit and the cold can be tolerated, but it's always more awesome to come back to the desert and warm up! Don't know how folks do it in the Pacific NW, but more power to 'em. Snow and wind over 10,000' doesn't sound like much fun...that said, checking out the low desert in the rain is always a treat. Should be a good weekend to get out around here

Just could not be as much fun as desert peaks, in my opinion! ;)mazatzal wrote:@sbkelley

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Today's 120 hour quantitative precipitation forecast has a spot issue of 5.1 inches of rain/precip for what appears to be the Mogollon Rim. A huge area of over 2 inches for the central part of the state, and3 inches for the Wolf Creek Pass area in Colorado. We'll see...
Peaks over 20,000' might be fun if you can get to them and you enjoy the low, low atmospheric pressure that comes with that elevation. I used to think that would be fun, but I don't think I really care if I ever get higher than Mount Whitney. Desert peaks are fun, but probably not this weekend.

Agree 100% on this statement! The low, low pressure just makes it harder to breathe, lol.azbackpackr wrote: Just could not be as much fun as desert peaks, in my opinion!
2 inches of rain would definitely be nice, and would help start to get the creeks flowing

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
I recall Joe or someone else stating that November rains are supposed to be better for germinating and starting the desert flowers off, for February to April. Where as January rain without fall rain benefits the exotic grasses more, in the Sonoran desert. If that is the case, then this storm might be a huge boon for poppies in 3 to 4 months. if it rains significantly over here, it could do the same, as we had next to none last winter, and there were no spring flowers.

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Hopefully the forecasters aren't overdoing things as they tend to do when they get a little excited because something is actually about to happen in the skies over this state ... but I like the current forecast. 2" of rain in the south central deserts, 3-5" in the mountains north and east of Phoenix
, Snowbowl looking at 3-4 FEET of snow, and even a foot of snow on the rim once the cooler air comes in on Saturday. This might be fun!

I am hoping as well, if I dont check in by Monday, it means the interior washes/creeks were raging in the Supes and I had to spend an extra night

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Today's QPF has an ever more impressive 6 inches around the Rim and 4.8 up near Page. It would be nice if these impressive totals came down, or close to them, but I think they are getting a little over aggressive with the forecast. They tend to do that with early and late storms. And in general. We'll see. It is still a little early, so a huge dump on the Peaks might melt a little.

I know you not exactly in Supes, but does it look like rain is getting to mountains? has to be right?

Started 0300 at the latest in Sunnyslope, and has continued straight through, all the way from here to Prescott.

4.41 inches of precip, probably as snow, at 9,000' on Mount Lemmon. Unless it is rain, which is sort of a shame up that high.

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Not much rain here in San Diego County, just a bit, off and on. But holy cow, it must have cut loose in the White Mountains because the Little Colorado is up to over 2K right now. I heard it rained in Tucson, but the Rillito came up only a little bit. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/az/nwis/current/?type=flow

About .90 at my house in SW Tucson so far, with about 2 inches reported at Picture Rocks. Heavier rain west of here and up in the Phoenix area.

1 1/2 inch as of 3PM in N. Phx 101 and Cave Creek and it's still raining. My garden is very
