A New Menage Emerges!!

Post by Jeffshadows »

After breaking my own rule and going to popular recreation spots the last few weekends I am taken aback by a striking correlation between rude trail behavior and the presence of a Starbucks or otherwise uber-trendy beverage joint container in the offender's grip. A few (subjective) examples follow:

- December 2008, Sweetwater Trail, about 0800: A large woman with a starbucks cup in hand had set her camera gear up in the middle of the trail less than 50m from the trail-head and was completely obstructing its course. She got confrontational when I went around her through the cactus and apparently "ruined her shot."

- December 2008, Finger Rock Trail, about 0900 and then roughly 1115: I arrived near the pass and the popular camping spots only to discover a Starbucks cup with a rock in the bottom sitting in the middle of a fire ring and another nearby where it had apparently blown to; on the way down I was held-up by a woman refusing to yield the trail as she slowly crept down from the first vista above the spring. When she finally did move she screamed: "Are you happy, now?!" rhetorically at myself and another hiker who passed her as she chugged away at her steaming Coffee X-Change cup.

- This last weekend, Telephone Line Trail, about 0900: I was on the ascent when I encountered a group of under-dressed female coeds on the descent who were oblivious to my presence and nearly knocked me into the canyon. (Never mind yielding the trail.) When I greeted them, one responded with a pitiful: "Haaaaaay" in the most sarcastic and obnoxious tone she could muster as though she was talking to her gardener or some other member of the proletariat. They were all carrying Starbucks cups and hopefully one or more painful STDs - just kidding...or, *am* I?

It is clear that they must put meth, steroids, or some form of snobification serum in these products; we must act fast to ban them from our trails!! :D

Wow, someone else who hates parties? I thought I was alone in that "crowd."

My daughter goes to NAU. She is majoring in chemistry and minoring in Spanish. Therefore she does not have time for hiking in a bikini, nor very many parties! So, there are some serious students up there, at least, one or two!

As for peeing in your Cheerios, it's an old expression. It works really well mid-morning if someone (spouse, co-worker?) is still very grumpy (because they didn't get their Starbucks??) and you say to them, "Sheesh, who peed in your Cheerios this morning?"

UofA certainly gets the job done when it comes to partying. I always heard that the NAU rep came from the fact that it's so cold up there for a lot of the school year the only thing most people do is stay inside and...snuggle. :)

I'm fairly confident that all students, no matter the school and no matter the major have done their fair share of partying. I for one, am constantly wasted (including right now), never study, get about 2 hours of sleep everynight and chill with my bros all the time, doing really chill stuff thats always chill. Its sick.

Every school is a party school. The University of Arizona most certainly was when I was there, but it seems to have toned-down a bit. We still tailgate, but all the undergrads seem to be obsessed with beer pong. Lame. My old fraternity house is now the drainage retention basin at Cherry & Drachman north of campus. They not only had to get rid of the house, they had to remove the soil underneath it!
This thread's had peeing in Cheerios, menage a' whatevers, scantily-dressed coeds, mine thieves, and dreams fur-lined bikinis summiting Humphrey's in winter. This is definitely going downhill....

That's awesome. And I agree. I know people who went to BYU and other religious schools who would have been ex-communicated had their activities been made public. It's just the way it is. The name and location of the school really doesn't matter.

Can you imagine the SAR call-out on that one?! :sl:
