Planning a 5-day, 4-night excursion to Grand Gulch, UT. Start date is looking to be May 22 . Starting point will be Collins Spring and exit will be Kane Gulch (easier to arrange shuttle if necessary). Actual starting date is dependent on availability of permits (won't know until last part of Feb). Group size will be no larger than 8-10 explorers put together from several hiking/adventure sites. This will be planned as a trip suitable to fit and experienced backpackers. Distance is anticipated to be approximately 35-45 miles (although the goal is to explore the canyons and ruins). Feel free to PM if you have any questions...

Less water in the pack more room for clothes. :D

We're all back alive. It was fun and fascinating, with just enough adventure thrown in. I used up four camera batteries. I'm not sure how many pictures that equates to, but I think about 800.

Sounds like full-tilt "Tibber" mode to me Alex. :sl: Wished I was there! Next time...

I think you left a map in my truck unless it was Paul's. I came in around 800 as well. Had a blast. :y:

Oh yeah, those were the quads for Mexican Hat and Valley of the Gods. Go ahead and keep or recycle them, they're free downloads from USGS.

Just made it back into town... Thanks, all, for a great time! The company definitely made the adventure what it was; wouldn't have been the same without you all there!

Sounds like you all had a great time. My wife and I will be backpacking in the gulch this weekend. Can someone give me a report on the water and daytime/night temperatures? Thanks.

Temps are going up, highs probably in the mid 80s or thereabouts, lows around 50, possibly dipping lower. Most of the named springs appear as small-to-medium pools. Other pools might still exist in isolated spots, but they won't last much longer without more rain. Expect the water to be fairly scummy and heavily laden with fine sediment.

Big Load-Thanks for the info. Sounds like we may want to carry most of our water in. I can hardly wait, we've been wanting to do something like this ever since we went to Meas Verde a while back.
