Collins Spring to Kane Gulch - May 22-26, 2011

Post by PLC92084 »

Planning a 5-day, 4-night excursion to Grand Gulch, UT. Start date is looking to be May 22 . Starting point will be Collins Spring and exit will be Kane Gulch (easier to arrange shuttle if necessary). Actual starting date is dependent on availability of permits (won't know until last part of Feb). Group size will be no larger than 8-10 explorers put together from several hiking/adventure sites. This will be planned as a trip suitable to fit and experienced backpackers. Distance is anticipated to be approximately 35-45 miles (although the goal is to explore the canyons and ruins). Feel free to PM if you have any questions...

I did this one last year, cool hike. Hire a shuttle so you won't be messin around afterwards running vehicles. Also the water there is like concrete to your filters, go prepared for that.

I think these dates are pretty good and looking better for me than Rob's earlier trip. I'll try to keep them clear.

Be sure to check with ranger if there is any water. That is getting kind of late in the season for that hike, IMO. It's one I would like to do, though. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Just a quick update to alert interested parties the start date is being bumped up by one day. Departure will be Sunday, May 22, 2011 provided there are no curve balls when I apply for permits in a couple of weeks. If this adversely affects anyone, my apologies (trying to coordinate with another group I'm supposed to meet after this gig...).

OK, prospective hiking companions, permit application date is coming up, relatively soon... I need to determine, who among this motley crew, will commit to attend. If everyone who has indicated interest on this and the other site I've posted on ponies up, we're looking at 12 people! If I get payment (from everyone), before the application deadline, I guess we'll have one big, happy group... If you're still on the fence, I'll shoot for 8 permits and we'll go from there.

I've got a PayPal account set up so, in theory, it should be a piece of cake to get your money. $10 will be sufficient to cover each person's permit.

PM with questions and to let me know if you're going...

That's the marathon weekend - while I will be in the area, I don't think I'll want to start hiking the day after I run 24 miles. Bowing out, though I guess if I was really a hombre muy duro I could still do it...

OK, Fellow HAZ'ers. I've locked in seven permits for this trip; there are, currently, two spots open. Who's going to represent the Grand Canyon State (Alex sort of counts but he lives in NJ...)? This trip will have action, adventure, history (no drama, - we'll leave that to Bear, Les and the other Discovery Channel ilk...). All this for a paltry sum of $10.00. I'd throw in a Ginsu knife set but I'm fresh out...

PM for details...

@PLC92084
All right I'm ready to step up and commit. :y: Got permission from my wife. Work has stated that they are keeping me on the same schedule so barring any Acts of God or dates being changed (not available before 5/21 and have to be home before 5/28) I'm in. Just need you to pm me on how to get you the $10.00 as I'm in Louisiana until the beginning of April.

OK, Folks!

As luck would have it, I've located a Ginsu Knife (Billy Mays won't need it)...

Got one slot open still... Who's going to be Lucky Number Seven? It won't do to have Arizona under-represented for Grand Gulchapalooza 2011... The weather promises to be fantastic, the scenery breathtaking and the company even better!

Love the title.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Oooh...I am back on the fence with me dropping out of the H2B, per our conversation. Need to discuss with the wife in more detail...
