Vulture Peak - New Years Day

The Holidays are almost upon us, so I thought I would post this one a little earlier so people can plan. Did a New Year's Day Hike last year and had a blast, so I've decided I would try to make it a tradition. :D Will do a different Peak every year, and since we did Picketpost last year and that's Southeast, I thought I would give the Northwest folks a closer shot, and choose this one. (Plus, I've never done it... :GB:) I try to choose areas just out of the Valley so that we don't run into hordes of people on the Holiday. Carpooling is definitely possible, I can take 3 more people comfortably, 4 if you want to get really cozy.... :D Start time 9:00 A.M. at the TH. Should give some of the party goers a chance to sleep just a bit. Super Turbo Hikers can start an hour later and meet up with us, like you did last year, or join us for the whole thing.... And yes, I will be bringing the Kitchen Sink with me again this year, unless I can get Joel or Brian to do an Airdrop for me.... :D

If you see a silver Mazda 3 with veteran's plates, that's me ...

Wanted to make it with the little one, but logistically seems too difficult (she's not a fan of long car rides and it will mess up her sleeping/ eating routine.) If we hike it will be closer to home. :( Happy New Year.

I'll be in my "Desert Mica" (tan) Toyota Tacoma at the dirt parking lot on the southeast corner of I-17 and Carefree highway until 6 am tomorrow if anyone needs a last minute carpool. I hope to be at the Dana Arch trailhead before 7, and head for the arch at 7 to catch the sunrise with any other early birds. If the arch is really cool, maybe I'll hit it again after Vulture.
I'll be at the lower Vulture trailhead a little before 9 if anyone wants a 4WD ride up to the upper trailhead.

Randy, we'll catch that humor of yours another day.
Joel, completely understood, that's a long day for the little one.
Glenda, if you can get up to I-17/ Carefree Hwy by around 7, you can certainly ride the rest of the way with me.
I'll see the rest of you or at least some of you at the lower TH at 9:00. The rest of you will catch at the Peak for a little New Year's Day Party.

Just finished "prepacking". Don't think I'm gonna weigh this pack, it would probably psyche me out. Hopefully you all will be ready to help me lighten the load at the Peak. :) Does anyone know what the maximum weight load is for a Gregory Z40??? :sl:

If that Z40 is anything like my Z30, you can probably store your car in it.

I may sleep in just a bit...but I'll catch up. I'll be starting from the lower trailhead, hopefully 9:30-ish. If you see an 8 foot dude with a blue Deuter pack coming up the trail, it's probably me. ;)

Looking forward to seeing you all!
