Trail photographers beware

There are a few hazzers who really like capturing photos of wildlife when out on the trail. This is a reminder that there's some danger involved in that!
Definitely avoid rabid beavers!

Belarus Beaver Bites Man to Death
A Belarus beaver bit a man to death as he tried to take a photo of it at Lake Shestakov.

The man was on a fishing trip with friends when the attack took place. The beaver pounced on him and bit him after he approached the animal for a picture.

His friends tried to stop him bleeding from his thigh, but the beaver had severed one of his main arteries and he quickly bled to death.

On my last Grand Canyon river trip, we had a bat in camp during the middle of the day that was swooping us and wouldn't go away. I urged the guys to try to do something about it. One of them disposed of it with a well-aimed rock, and threw it in the river. It took a bit of convincing them that it could very well be rabid. I left the area because it made me very nervous. When I wandered back, one of the guys had gotten rid of it.

I just re-read this thread from the beginning. It was very entertaining until it veered off into the mythical world of rabid bats.

But back on page 1 the beaver stuff was fascinating. ;)

And all this brings it back to the current news where a fat 45-lb beaver was "rescued" from Tempe Town Lake. Still not sure how something can be "rescued" from it's native habitat, but that's another story I guess. At 45-lbs though, he might be able to have a pretty fair fight with 9L's cat. :wlift:

TTL must be a pretty interesting ecosystem, what with all the stocked fish, the family of bald eagles, and now super-sized beavers.

I do believe I would freak out if that thing swam up alongside me smacking its tail on the water during my next triathlon.

I wonder what else lives in there?
