Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
That's truly great news for the Golden State, although likely there will also be flooding and road closures, but they sure do need the precip.

Since this is an ongoing discussion and not really an answer to a specific query, I'm not sure that a new thread is needed.HAZ Forum Guidelines

Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Well, speaking of the WEATHER, we actually may receive some rain here in Needles tomorrow. It's amazing what I've been seeing about that NW storm coming down the coast. Looks like the Real McCoy.
The news said it rained over 14 inches at a place called the Petrified Forest. This confused me, so I looked it up. It's in Sonoma County, north of San Francisco. It has fossil logs from the Eocene (so is much, much younger geologically than our Petrified Forest in Arizona, which is Triassic). Interesting!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrified_ ... ifornia%29

@azbackpackr
Please only reference the Triassic if it pertains to the weather of that time. Let's keep this thread on topic.

Re: 2015?: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun!!!!!!
In Triassic AZ, 14 inches of rain might have been common enough. Flooding might even knock over a bunch of trees and bury them in mud, silt, and sand.

Re: 2015?: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun!!!!!!
We've had over 3" of rain here in Walnut Creek today with more on the way. This storm is definitely a large pineapple express. I'm not sure how much will make it to Arizona because the main pulse of the storm appears to be tracking northeast over the central half of California. The rain started about 4 a.m. this morning and is still going strong

Re: 2015?: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun!!!!!!
Well, the snow levels for this storm appears to be high, and the eastern side of the Sierra is not really reporting impressive totals. Tahoe ski areas make it look like a dud compared to the west side rain fall. Mammoth is just now getting hit and totals are medium, but I would check back on that in 12 hours. I think, the Peaks will get a foot, or so, at best. It tracked northeast as you said, Jim Lyding. San Jacinto doesn't really have an impressive forecast, but the more coastal areas of southern California are getting some decent radar rain totals. Hopefully, the desert areas get at least 1/4 inch around here, and Mount Lemmon has a forecast for perhaps 6 inches on top.

Re: 2015?: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun!!!!!!
Forecast totals had slowly been creeping up until today. Tucson has an earlier forecast than Phoenix, which has trended down a bit from the overnight model.
Either way, it looks like central Arizona will get the bulk of moisture from this storm ... the Mazzies, Sierra Ancha, and eastern Mogollon Rim will probably see the highest totals, and even these areas might only see a few spots reach the 1" total.
It'll be nice to finally see some snow accumulation down below 6000 feet though. And it looks like the follow-up on Tuesday-Wednesday next week will be colder with even lower snow levels. The amount of moisture in that one is still uncertain.

We have wet stuff falling from the sky here in Needles, CA, and I'm a homerun's distance away from Arizona, (right across the river) and it's raining over there, too. It's blowing a bit, too. My motorhome be rockin' (and I don't have company.)

The rain has stopped in Needles. It's sunny and cool here on the riverbank. There was a fog along the river which burned off about an hour ago.

Looks like widespread 1/4 to maybe near 1/2 inch around me, and a very impressive amount on Mount Lemmon. Assuming these 24 hour totals are accurate, I wonder how much of the mountain top total is snow?

Aug 13 - was raining this AM but don't suspect it lasted long. (update 8-14-14, gauge added another 1/4" in the AM)
Aug 19 - 2 7/8" (includes 1" between 6-6:50AM)
Streets were high with running water almost to curb
Our 132 unit community drainage is full and NOT draining by 4PM.
Sept 8 - 3" between 2AM and 7AM
Surprisingly the streets were not running that high with running water vs Aug 19.
Surprisingly the community drainage had mostly drained by 4PM vs Aug 19.
So total since August 2nd is 9"And we HAZers love our December rain as it usually brings a great show of spring flowers

@tibber
Hey Angela...what kind of weird rain gauge do you have? Nobody talks about eighths of an inch. Measurements are usually made in tenths, or preferably hundredths.

Storm total at my house from today's storm was 0.28 inch (or somewhere between 2 and 3 eighths of an inch ;) ).

Well, we could be. A lot of rain gauges come with metric graduations as well (cm,mm).
