Sheriff tells hikers to ignore naked runners on nature trails

Being one with nature inspires certain folks to go au naturel. The Garfield Country Sheriff's Office in Colorado is warning residents about recent sightings of nude men -- some of them out for a run -- on local paths. "With the beautiful weather we have had the last few weeks, it's no surprise our bike paths and trails have seen an increase of activity," the sheriff noted in a press release about the indecent-exposure uptick. However, at a community meeting Tuesday night, the sheriff also urged residents not to stop hiking: "Be a little more prepared, be a little more aware, take some precautions, but you need to do what you enjoy in life." Like exercise in the buff.

I thought this was interesting. Many of the readers' comments clearly show the open-mindedness of Southern California values regarding nudity. It's a breath of fresh air. ;)

That's what I call a nature hike! Though typically those who sit on the beach au naturel are subjects that could cause nausea in some onlookers. Perhaps I should be more sympathetic?

I honestly think it's because we're not used to seeing old wrinkled (or fat) naked people that it bothers us. If we had been going to nude beaches since we were children we'd have seen the whole gamut enough times to not be bothered by it. We'd still appreciate a beautiful young male or female specimen, but the old people would also have their place. We'd think nothing of it.

My take on nudist hiking and backpacking is that we need to reserve a trail or trails in the Superstitions for it.

I recommend the Red Tanks and/or the Woodbury Trails. Just sayin....

I think setting up a clothing optional trail would be a good idea. Pick a place that would have the least impact on those that would be offended. Trails that aren't so much about nature but to be seen and show the world your buffness and coolness. Squaw Peak and Camelback come to mind.
