Doesn't surprise me, some of my friends there think 30miles is an amazingly long way to travel :sl: Course, much of my wifes family hasn't left Hilo so..

As someone who grew up just south of San Francisco, I disagree with that statement. First, I have no desire to be associated with anything to do with typical southern California (LA). Second of all, drawing a line halfway across California will end up with Suckramento and SF just north of that dividing line.
And that's exactly why people from San Fran like to be "Northern California".. then again.. many folk from Paradise, Ft Brag etc.. don't want to be associated with San Fran either :y:

In a late development ... NWS has issued a Snow Advisory for Flagstaff and areas north and west. Calling now for 8-10" above 7500 feet. Point forecast for 10,000 feet on the peaks calls for 11-19". Could this be one of those "surprises" that dumps 2+ feet on the mountain? I hope so!

That would be fun, but it doesn't sound like my area is going to get much. I am sure there are bare spots in the ski trails at Pole Knoll after today's sunshine, because when I went up there a couple of days ago there were some very thin areas. We need it to snow three feet or more up there like it did 2 years ago. That snow formed a base, and it was a great winter for xc skiing!

I think this is a common syndrome. I have a friend who lived in Reedsport OR for a few years. She says it's on a bay, about 5 miles from the ocean. She knew people who had never been to the beach. Go figger...

On the other hand, the reason so many of the outdoor areas near cities are crowded is because there are legions of folks wanting to have some kind of recreation on the weekend. So it's a good thing there are still legions more who never recreate outside!

Amen, brother, Hallelujah! ;)

Forecast is specific today: Snow above 7200, rain below. My house sits at 7100, so we may get any combination of snow, sleet, rain, slush, etc. Right now, however, when I went out to get firewood in the backyard, it was very beautiful, with a sliver of moon, a sprinkling of stars. The neighbors' roosters crowing, a very slight breeze. To the east, a hint of dawn, with reddish high clouds. "Red sun in the morning, sailors take warning..."

With a light dusting of snow in Flagstaff, US Airways has canceled my FLG to PHX flight. I guess they must cancel all flights when a light dusting of snow impacts their airports, like Chicago, Philadelphia, Newark, Boston, Albany, Denver, and so on. What a lousy airline, it's not even an inch.

i heard that whoever shovels the snow at the flagstaff airport didn't make a wide enough path on the runway. it has to be 150 feet. i work for an air cargo company and our feeder flight to FLG was canceled yesterday. we had to truck everything.
that may or may not have something to do with it, although you would think it would be fixed by now. anything in the news about that?

They canceled my flight, even though the snow stopped and what we had from 10am up to my 12:25 pm departure time didn't do more than put a dusting on car tops. It didn't stick on the bare pavement in my complex 2 miles from the airport. The next 2 flights today out of Flag are listed as on time on the US Airways website. Not too long ago, I heard a plane either landing or taking off from the airport.

It never happened! I don't believe you! Yesterday it was sunny here all day, but cold and windy. I went to a party in the early afternoon. Two of the couples who showed up live over between Snowflake and Concho, and left early because there was a huge cloud bank hovering up on the mountainous horizon to the west, toward Green's Peak. I guess it got that far, anyway. Today when I go to the bus barn I can find out if Show Low got any snow. Maybe also Erock will let us know. Or I can email those people from the party, also.

330 a.m. right now, no wind, cold, stars are out. I walk to work, so I won't worry about scraping the ice off the windshield.

Snowbowl is opening on Thursday! They got 7-13" over the weekend and it was heavy, wet snow so they were able to pack it down and establish a base. Too bad the forecast looks clear for the foreseeable future. They really could use another storm.
