Re: Mindless weather chit chat
@Jim_H Is the solstice weather related?

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Well, the current QPF shows no rain the next 7 days. I know people got very excited about that tropical moisture and storm last weekend, but with nothing in the forecast until July, we probably won't see a start, a real start and not the NWS calendar start, to monsoon season until July. Looks like I was wrong and my optimism for a last week of June start was off, but maybe the spring dry season won't last in to the middle of July.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Looks like decent potential for some rain on Friday in SE AZ at least. 20% chance of t-storms Rincons/Mt. Graham. 40% for Chiracahuas. Per NOAA. I am seeing 10%'s up on the rim.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
We got a nice surprise of close to a half inch of rain so far since this afternoon - along with some scary lightning. Over an inch on Mt. Graham, and flash flood warning in effect around the Northwest burn areas - Ash Creek, etc.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Summer finally reached NJ today. We're expecting a week of highs over 90F, the longest stretch in a couple years. It doesn't seem like much compared to AZ. I just hope the AC at the gym can keep up.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Well, surprises are nice! I like surprises, provided I am not on Humphrey's Peak, or something like that.
The QPF models now shows moisture creeping westward with some precipitation totals along the rim to Flagstaff. The 120 hour model just shows light totals over the Baldy area of the White Mts, and the 168 hour map shows green out to Flagstaff. Models can change a lot in 7 days, but maybe late next week will see the arrival of summer rains as a result of the seasonal wind shift known as the Mexican or North American Monsoon.

Looks the white mountains are getting some rain today! Anyone know a good reliable website for rain totals in that part of the state?

@kelly14
There aren't many gauges out there, but a map exists here: https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/?obs=true&wfo=fgz
You'll have to make the selections you are interested in. (Observation tab, display precipitation from all networks, with density 3x or all)
A text list of all the gauges statewide: https://mesowest.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droma ... &orderby=n
Here on HAZ if you look at the map ( https://hikearizona.com/map.php ) there's a button for "rain" that overlays the imprecise radar estimate of recent rainfall.
Unofficial (random person with a backyard gauge) rainfall reports can be found at https://rainlog.org/map - updated each morning.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
I just heard a dust storm warning on the radio, the radar is pretty active over the White Mountains, and storm chances and QPF totals are up for the 5 day. Surface dew points are rather low, but I think the seasonal wind shift is approaching.

Looked like a promising storm for the Payson area but no rain. Looked like the Pinal's may have received rain. I will be out in the desert Friday, maybe I can encourage the cicadas to start their rain song

We had rain yesterday afternoon at my new digs in Oro Valley. Forgot how beautiful it is to see the clouds build up over the Catalinas.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
I could put this in the fire thread but it’s mostly driven by weather... as long as there are no significant fire starts from lightning in the next 4-5 days I predict the forest closures will be lifted by next weekend. It’s conceivable that burn restrictions may be dropped too depending how much rain falls next week, and where.
Of course, I could be wrong too.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
A bit of rain in Flag midday. Then I went to NW Arizona, to Pearce Ferry. Very bad windstorm, with an enormous black cloud bank over the Grand Wash Cliffs. I decided a motel room would be the prudent and more comfortable choice, instead of a pup tent. So, back to Meadview I went. I have to go back to Pearce in the morning to pick up friends from a river trip. Hope it stays dry. That road can get washed out pretty badly.

Coming down in buckets out here. Just looked online at our neighborhood's local weather station and we've had over two inches of rain in the last hour.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
There was a thunder sometime overnight and this morning there was a liquid thing in the bottom of the gauge. I’ll be generous and say 0.01” - but measurable is more than a trace!
