Goofy Hikers

OK, we have all seen some pretty goofy hikers. More than we can remember. What are yours?

Today, we saw some kid hiking with a Game Boy two inches from his face. Luckily he was on the Bell Rock Pathway and was in no danger of walking over a cliff. He was so funny looking it was hard not to laugh out loud. His parents were ignoring him.

We will always remember the guy hiking with a 5-gallon pickle bucket strapped to his back. At Indians Gardens. Classic!

We've always liked those tourists who use plastic grocery bags as packs. How innovative!

Or the people who try to "bum" water from you when they are less than a half mile from the TH.

I'd give anything if I would have kept a written log of all the goofy hikers we've seen over the years. It sure would be fun to recount them in their original "glory."

We're certain our "goofy hiker" stories pale in comparison to those lurking in the minds of HAZ-ites everywhere. We hope you find time to share your stories here. In the meantime, we will continue to dredge the depths of our memory for more "goofy hiker" stories.

Meanwhile, we are trying to be a goofy hiker ourselves! Another HAZ member and we are exploring the possibility of outfitting us in high heels just to take "gag" pictures in various places high heels would never go. But we really, honestly DO see high heels on a fairly regular basis in Sedona. Sometimes even stilletto heels. Guess we're goofy, too, eh?

Just like the tourist telling his kids that the condors were just turkey buzzards... Cause he has seen Condors and those aren't them. I tried to tell him we don't number our Turkey Vultures in AZ he still insisted that those weren't Condors cause they were too small as they flew in the Grand Canyon with no reference points....

BrewDog declares war on Schorschbrau with Sink the Bismarck!

(Aberdeen, SCOTLAND) – In the nuclear arms race for world’s strongest beer, BrewDog has reclaimed the title with its 41% ABV IPA, Sink the Bismarck!

Within the last week, I wrote about how Schorschbrau trumped the 32% ABV Brewdog Tactical Nuclear Penguin with a 40% ABV beer. I was surprised when Brewdog’s James Watt tweeted the post out to his followers proclaiming that “Tactical Nuclear Penguin is dead.” Makes sense now. Watt knew he had an announcement coming two days later.

Flash forward to this morning and BrewDog even has a write-up in the BBC about the new beer.

The duo from Fraserburgh are marketing geniuses and they’ve once again turned to video to announce the new beer. This time, however, the focus of the video turns to firing shots at the German brewers from Schorschbrau. It’s possible that BrewDog’s displeasure for Schorschbrau comes from trying to one-up them on the day of their big Tactical Nuclear Penguin announcement. It may also stem from Schorschbrau allegedly trying to sell the brewery its recipe for strong beer (see the end of the video).

Calling them “sausage munchers” and deliberately mis-pronouncing Georg Tscheuschner’s first name at the end of the video could be perceived as crossing the line though I will let you be the judge.

If there's one thing in this world that I like it's life-threatening beer. Reminds me of the Johnny Horton song "Sink the Bismarck." "We found the German battleship that's been making such a fuss. We had to sink the Bismarck because the world depends on us. We hit the deck a'running', and we spun those guns around YEAH. We found the mighty Bismarck and we aim to cut her down."
Thinking of goofy hikers....who else as a youth was subjected to their parents playing Johnny Horton, and now love his songs? Funny how things work out. "North to Alaska," "Johnny Reb," "Battle of New Orleans," and "Jim Bridger." If it's not Slayer or Sepultura, I hope it's Johnny Horton. Talk about gooooooofy.
