Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Yeah, I'm not sure that I can speak for everyone here, but I would think most people including myself don't like to go for a hike and practice deep breathing during a dust storm no matter how short-lived or minor it may be.
I'll never know, as what is irritating my eye, singular, is the lid and I may have touched it with some fibers and resin present on fingers from the sunflowers I was prunning Saturday afternoon. It is improving and it will go away.
When I wrote that yesterday both eyes were bothering me and it was the whites. It seemed like it was pretty Smokey here from any number of the fires burning around town.
I'm surprised that got so much excitement.
Also, I've been slowly cutting down about a dozen sunflowers that I have had and continue to have planted in my garden bed. The tallest is perhaps 12 ft tall.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
It was gorgeous last afternoon and evening. The humidity was super low and it got cool. I opened windows and aired out the house.

21 degrees at the south rim, 22 in Bellemont, widespread 20s from the Arizona Strip to the Flagstaff area and across the Mogollon Rim to New Mexico. My kind of June 9th!

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
It's chilly! I'm boondocking with the new motorhome just outside of Flag, and ran the generator for an hour and a half so as to not use up the battery power while using the gas furnace. (Fan uses power.) Plus, I plugged in the electric radiator space heater. Not sure how cold it actually was right here. Airport said 30 was the lowest.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I'm just happy someone opened the door to the oven and it hasn't been 112 since last week. High and low temperatures have actually been enjoyable summer temps for most of the lower 48. Yeah, 97 might still be hot for back east, but it was a nice dry 97.

Camped out in Bars Canyon Maazies on Friday night and got monsoon rain most of the night. Lots of lightning in the distance. Highly uncharacteristic of early June. Temperatures were pleasant enough for 3500 ft. Dogs are cats and avocados go on toast. The world is upside down.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
@wildwesthikes It was a cold front from the west, as opposed to the monsoon. But a nice departure from typical June weather nonetheless.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
It was cool enough to open all the doors and windows this morning, but the smoke from the fires eliminated that idea within 30 seconds.

The run of cool, dry weather in NJ seems to have come to an end. I'll miss it.

The saguaro fruit has been picked and some of the fruit will be made into wine. This wine the Tohono O'odham call tiswin and it will be consumed in ceremonies to Sing Down the Rain. The monsoon rains now nourish the summer crops of corn, beans and squash. The second cycle of life in the desert begins.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
It's cool outside this morning, and we're forecast to only be in the seasonally normal low 100s today. However, next week my forecast is back over 110, and to 112 or higher. It has been reasonable lately. This gets me thinking.
How hot will Phoenix get this last half of June, traditionally the hottest time of year? I don't think we got over 115 degrees for the summer in 2019, and 2018 was rather cool in my memory. Will we make 117, 118, or even 119 (or maybe hotter), as happened in in 2017?

@Jim_H
Looking at historical data for Sky Harbor it appears we are in a similar pattern as 2017. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see 118+ before the end of this month.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 130°F. What 2020 has taught me is to expect anything.

@chumley
God, I hope not. On the one hand, I just planted an apricot 4 weeks ago, on the other, I grow tired of summers here (without having a pool) and it would make moving a lot easier.
