Re: 2020: Worst Summer in Memory?
Truly the worst most stressful year of my life. Too many sleepless nights along with medical and business hell.....oh yeah and it was hot. But I met Chums so it's all good.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I wouldn't mind a day or two of that, but right now I'm looking forward to the several days of entirely average temperatures we're supposed get this weekend. The humidity is taking a break, too. I'm ready, because the dew point was 73 on Wednesday.Jim_H wrote:I like how Phoenix had it's hottest, but Tucson had it's warmest. It's less than a 7 degree difference between the two cities, and most other locations in the country would call anything 90 or greater hot. However, the last few days in the low 100s and high 90s have been pleasantly mild.
I'm looking forward to some cool, brisk Autumn weather, starting with the forecast high of 111 for the weekend. It will be refreshing!

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
What gives? When I looked at the NWS site yesterday around 3:30, it said 115, but now the NWS officially says that 114 was the high. 114 was still a record, but it was not the 115 that was on the website!

Maybe someone got overzealous with the opportunity to push the new record.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
If you click on the NWS map and your "point" is closer to another station than it is to PHX, the temperature at that station displays.Jim_H wrote:What gives?
Yesterday afternoon it was 115 at Glendale, Goodyear, and the JLG Supersite (located somewhere near 7th Ave and Indian School).
Officially at PHX it was 114.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
@chumley
I have a location for my house bookmarked and it never changes. I live about 2 to 3 miles from Sky Harbor in a direct line, so unless they screw up and give me a different station, I get the airport. I knew I should have taken a photo, as while I don't remember if it was another station, I am pretty sure it was Sky Harbor. It isn't that important, it could even have simply been a manual error on the part of a tech, but I don't like appearing to be dishonest.

I would have guessed your closest to be at the durango complex, but that only hit 114 yesterday.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
No, but it will remain to be seen for the LBJ.
Anyway, I looked at that super site you mention and the NWS gives GPS coordinates that when mapped on our map, puts it in an apartment complex. I bet that location is actually the air monitoring station at roughly 4538 N 17th Ave. What exactly is a super site? As long as it isn't a superfund, I guess I don't care.

I believe it claims to be an "AirNow" site so that location makes sense. Who knew GPS coordinates were so challenging?

@chumley
I think they just were not very accurate. I plugged the provided coordinates into the map. It was way, way closer than 7th ave and Indian School. Actually, I don't know where you got that from, but 19th Ave and Camelback would have been more accurate. More ghetto, too. Thats Meth and Hobo central! It was close, but if someone wanted to target a tactical missile at it, they would have been more likely to take out a low earning renter, than any air monitoring equipment.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Officially 114 at phx already today (a new record). Another 115 seems likely... can we push it to 117 or 118? I figure there’s probably two good hours of heating ahead!

Actually, I looked at the 5 minute observations, and this is for Sky Harbor, and it says 115 a few times today. I see 115 for 3:20 yesterday, too, so I don't know what that is about.

@chumley You would think that if data was valid enough to post every 5 minutes, it would be valid enough to be official, and not inaccurate.

I took a photo, to prove it, but the airport at 4:15 showed 115 degrees. I'm not lying!

I've just heard the news. Disturbing. I hold my vote for 2020 as the worst summer, ever.
