Hey there!

I am looking for some good challenging hikes. I have done Battleship, Capitol Butte, Flatiron, Picketpost, and other similar hikes. I will also attempt the Motherlode this year.

What other hikes are similar to these awesome scrambles? I absolutely loved Capitol Butte and would love more hikes like that.

Also always down to meet new people so if anyone wants to go on a challenging hike that I have been on I am more than happy to lead the way! Or if you care to show me some hikes that’d be amazing, too!

Look at Superstition Peak 5057 from Carney Springs. [ Superstition Peak 5057 - Carney ] . This is the eastern end of the Superstition Ridgeline. Flatironr/Siphon Draw is the western end of the Superstition Ridgeline. The Ridgeline is a challenging hike but I would strongly recommend hiking it the first time with someone who has hiked it before.

Start looking at some of the hikes in the Grand Canyon. Start with the Corridor Trails (Bright Angel or South Kaibab) to get familiar with the Canyon and water management. Then build up to Thunder River, Nankoweap, Royal Arch/Elves Chasm.

Humphreys Summit is a challenging hike. But it gets very crowded.

Those are a few fun ones.

Peak 3465-Hieroglyphic Mountains this is just west of Lake Pleasant. A nice 12 mile hike and odds are you well not see another person on this hike. And you never know what you will see out there. But the views from the top are breathtaking.

mazatzal peak and malapais are the tough ones that come to mind for me.

@arizonanova Have always wanted to do battleship, have hiked by the base several times. Love that area. Is it doable with a dog?

Some others in the Superstitions are Tortilla Peak, White Mountain and Picacho Butte(on Coffee Flat Mountain)

I wouldn't...But there may be differing Opinions of that....

Estrella Peak 4512, Mazzies: Davenport Peak, Saddle Mtn, Sheep, Bobp's 7xxx.

Big Horn Peak and while not in Arizona it's only about three hours away - Cactus to Clouds.

Finger Rock Canyon to Kimble Peak and hike down via Pima Canyon, or across to the Window, and hike down via Ventana Canyon. Or the other way around. In Tucson.

A challenging hike does not have to be a physically demanding one. Route finding skills on some hikes and hiking at night ( Superstition Ridgeline). Hiking different times of the year on the same trail offers a different perspective. Desert trees fluoresce and wild flowers appear, a month later the cacti bloom. When the monsoons arrive (I am hopeful) the backcountry takes on a different perspective in the desert or in the forest. A hike should not only be physically challenging but challenge the senses as well.

Elephant Mountain and the GC Battleship.

Buzzard's Roost would be a good one - it's relatively close (Peralta TH is a common start) and has a bit of mean-ness to it. Plus it's been on my todo list for a while, so... hint hint nudge nudge.

Quartz Peak in the Estrellas and add in Butterfly Peak.

Hahaha well hey I am not the one who is super busy all the time now... Beside South Fork supersedes all of these. Although maybe I'll just check that out and report back to you on its condition

I have been eyeing Mazatzal Peak for a bit now. Have you done it? How is it?

How long is the Ridgeline? This is one I definitely want to do but the stories make it seem a bit nerve-racking.

How is Weaver's Needle? Been eyeing this. Can you climb to the top? Do you need a rope?
